I'm back!

The sandals royal Bahamian was awesome. We had a great time! Gel nails last great through a week of pools and oceans :-) Now I need an update of everything I missed!

  • Yes, glad you are back and had fun. I was hoping you felt better in time for the trip!
  • Thanks everyone.  I felt much better about 8 hours later.  The nurse said heating pad and meds, and if I didn't feel better then to the ER.  I felt fine the next morning though.

We also went there on our honeymoon and decided to go back for our 3 year anniversary this time.

  • I'm glad you felt better in time and had a fantastic trip!

Did y'all leave the resort at all, or do anything else there that you might like to review for us?  Just, uh, in case anyone else is headed to Nassau this month?  Wink

    :)

We did a lot of off resort things last time, not as much this time.  But things we've done...

Atlantis: Did the tour.  Easiest way to get there is go to the Straw Market by bus, and then a water taxi or regular taxi.  It does cost money...Maybe $15/person.  You can then go see the massive and numerous aquariums, tour the gardens, gamble...whatever you like.  The casino there is oober expensive.  It took several hours to see everything.

Straw Market: This is kind of a must I think.  Think of it as a giant Bahamian flea market.  Great place to get souveniers.  You can haggle over anything, and they have knock off bags, handmade bags, wood work, t-shirts, all types of things.  We did get harrassed to buy some weed, but finally we both yelled no and the guy got the pictures.  It's free and very crowded but a good way to get stuff cheap.

We hung out a little while at the Wyndham Casino, it's nice and not too pricy.  They have $15 minimum tables instead of the $100 minimum tables that Atlantis does.

Fish Fry:  We didn't go, but EVERYONE says you have to.  It's the name of a restaurant, and have all types of food there, but specialize in Bahamian Cuisine.  Not fancy, just a cafe type place.  We didn't go because we were staying at Sandals so all of our food was free.

The bus is probably the easiest and cheapest way to get around.  It's $1.25/person no matter the length of the trip.  I do not recommend getting your own car, driver's are nuts there!  The bus drivers would drive on the sidewalks, so yeah, nuts.  You can also get all kind of info from the bus drivers.

Everyone we encountered was very nice.  The locals, the workers, everyone.  There was a guy who even helped us get a bus just cause he had nothing better to do, as he said.

  • Thanks for the recs! I'd read that the straw market burned down, so it's good to hear that one of the well known attractions is still around.

Really?  I don't see how it could.  It's just a big empty lot covered by concrete with people set up shops.  I mean, I guess the stuff they sell could burn...but nope it's all there.
