Constipation

OMG, it sucks. What are some stool softeners that I can take?  I'm drinking prune juice 2x a day and metamucil, but sick of these 'little movements'. I know everything is different when you are pregnant, but still!

Re: Constipation

  • I've always had a problem with constipation, so I'm doing whatever it takes to avoid getting hemorrhoids. :) My biggest success has been with taking two VitaFusion gummy fiber supplements daily and eating Mexican food regularly. I love me some beans!

Maybe I need to start eating some of them!

Seriously - I was never this regular when I wasn't pregnant, and I eat a lot of Mexican food as a rule. But I've definitely noticed - I eat Mexican, the next day I have a BM first thing. TMI? :)

  • My OB highly recommended colace.

  • I've been kind of constipated the past few weeks as well, but when I do finally have a BM, it's a real bowl buster. Honestly, it's a bit startling... Anyways I should probably take a stool softener, I have an all-natural one that's gentle on the tummy but I recently moved and haven't unpacked the vitamin box yet. Surprisingly the monster poo's that I have had so far haven't given me hemorrhoids and I have actually had a problem with that before I even got pregnant. What works for me? A cup of coffee. I know it's not good but honestly it's been the most effective and quick-acting solution to my stoppages. I would go the bean route but my boyfriend already thinks my gas is obnoxious and I don't know if I could do that to him in good conscious.

  • Ive never experienced constipation until I got pregnant and not until week 15. Its horrible and so frustrating! I started taking docusate sodium/colace and that helped a lot. Its just a stool softner so it wont make you go.. just make it easier to go. I dont want my bowels to rely on it so I stopped taking it. think i may try lactulose or magnolax every 3 days if needed. You can also try eating more fruit and fiber and drinking more water... those dont help me personally but for some they do!

  • Colace and I've had to take milk of magnesia once.

  • My dr told me I could take Colace, Metamucil, or Miralax.  I tried Colace, but it didn't help much.  She said Colace didn't do anything for her during her pregnancies either, and took Miralax religiously.  I'm going to try that and see if it helps!  I hate this!

Gerber pear juice helped me.  It's in the baby food aisle at my grocery store.  My doctor recommended colace and metamucil, but they didn't really help.
