Pregnant after a Loss

those that are seeimg or have seen an RE

Did you need a referral? If i look on my healthcare website for providers a few show up, in all other cases previous I have not needed a referral for specialist. My Dr. originally after my first loss she would send me for testing after two losses, my 2nd pregnancy resulted in my son and a year later I had my second m/c, her fill-in (she was out on maternity leave) said that I would not be sent until I had 3 consecutive losses, something I don't feel I want to endure. Things aren't looking the best for this pregnancy, but all hope is not yet lost yet. We haven't had any problems getting pregnant, only staying that way. So far my two losses have been B.O.s., I think if I can I may just jump ahead into the process, depending on the outcome of this pregnancy. TIA

Yes, I needed a referral. I was able to get it from my primary care doctor though (much easier to get in than my OB). If you call your insurance company they will be able to tell you for sure. Good luck!

  • I had to have a referral the first time I saw them- after our loss I just called them and made an appt because I didn't want to wait for my OB to make the decision for whether or not it was appropriate to go back to the RE-

  • It depends on your insurance, most likely (if you want insurance to pay for it, that is).  My RE you could just call and make an appointment on your own, without your OB "sending" you there - but I wanted my OB to be aware of my plan and agree with me, so we discussed it beforehand (my insurance didn't require that I get a referral).

  • I had to have a referral but my PCP offered to do it after my 2nd loss so I could circumvent the Ob who didn't think it was necessary. I ended up just switching Obs b/c I wasn't happy w/ my care but it was great that my primary offered.

  • I did not need a referral.  My OBGYN told me who they usually refer to (this was after a few failed femara cycles) and I called up and made my own appointment.  That said my insurance doesn't cover anything but testing, but even for the testing I didn't need a referral.  Good luck, I know it is so stressful.

  • My problem isn't conceiving.... it is carrying.... every BFP I got either not trying or first cycle actually trying (and once while we were TTA), I just don't want to keep getting pregnant if there is some underlying reason that my pregnancies end; it is getting to be too heartbreaking

  • It just depends on your insurance.  My insurance doesn't require referrals to any type of specialist so I was able to call an RE that takes my insurance and get started right away.

  • I got a referral, but I am not sure that I needed one.  I know I didn't for my insurance, but I think the RE may have been by referral only.
