DS is fully potty trained, but he has a hard time getting his pants back up after going to the bathroom. He pulls them up, but the waistband will be rolled up and his underwear hanging out.
He is starting preschool in Sep and their policy is that DC must be able to do everything potty related 100% independently. They will not help wipe, button, zip, etc.
Do you have any suggestions for pants that would be easier to pull up besides sweatpants? I usually put him in jeans in the fall/winter but those are the pants he has the most trouble with. (He has a hard time fastening them back, so he just pulls them down while still zipped and buttoned.)
TIA!
Re: Preschool and Potty training help
In a few months he might be able to do it, but I had DS track pants a lot when he started.
Also, really?? They expect them to wipe on their own. Maybe I am way too new to pre-school, but that is a skill that is pretty hard and some kids can't even reach. My DS is pretty good, but if he has a looser stool there is no way he can get himself clean enough on his own.

The other pre-school moms were stunned to hear that Dylan wipes himself for #2 (and their kids have been in pre-school for 2 years).
I figure they'll do their best but the times they'll actually go #2 at school will be minimal (at least for mine who you could set a clock by every morning).
As for the pants issue? Try teaching him to pull up his underwear first and then his jeans (if he's not already).
And if the jeans have adjustable waist in them loosen to where they're not falling down but they're not super tight either.
I find it hard to believe a pre-school teacher would see a child struggling to pull up his pants and ignore his need for assistance. I think it's more of a "rule" put in place to ensure that parents are working hard on teaching these skills at home so not every single kid is needing help every single time they're using the restroom.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
Keep working with him on the pants (he probably will get better with it by than). If not look for elastic jeans. We have pairs of them. They sell them everywhere. With a shirt pulled over the waist you never can tell they are elastic.
Another mom on this board shared with us this FABULOUS idea for wiping. She used toilet paper and would have her child take a turn and than she would take a turn. They worked on it till it was mastered. We followed this exact approach and now Harm has totally mastered the art.
Thats pretty much what we are doing. I wipe him first with a wet wipe, and then I have him practice wipe with dry toilet paper. It seems to be helping him reach the right spot. Before, he would just wipe a cheek. lol
