NBR: flies?

Hi all, we're going to the beach soon, and I just remembered that at the beach we go to, there tend to be mean, malicious, man-eating horse flies!

Does anyone know if a regular bug spray (OFF! or something) will affect them?  I remember getting bit up big time last year - those suckers hurt!

Any ideas?  I'm open to anything - including those old wive's remedies! Smile

TIA, and happy friday!

  • My doctor said absolutely no bug spray, which is poison that is absorbed by the placenta, on the skin.  Skin so Soft by Avon is all I am allowed to use.

Exactly what my OB told me too, word for word.  Maybe look into those things you clip onto your clothes...maybe you can clip it onto your beach bag?  But you'd still have to look at what chemical(s) it is emitting.

  • well oops..I've poisoned my baby :( I used Cutter bug spray last weekend while camping. ( Even though I still got eaten alive by mosquitos) What are the side-effects of such poison?

  • Last summer I had to sit by the pool every day waiting for my brother to get our of swim practice. I was so envious of the lady who had this:

WTH?!?! Why haven't I heard this?  I really hope someone in my family has skin so soft, or I'm going to be a hot and itchy prego lady!

So my next questions...did your doctors voluntarily tell you this info? I feel like my drs office really doesn't give a sh!t about me, and it's causing me some seriously unnecessary stress.  I've never been given any kind of "don't do this, make sure you do this" guidelines for anything.  I'm apparently on my own.

And....what chemicals should I be avoiding?  I haven't read anything about this online, in my books, and like I said, my drs really don't tell me much (but that's a whole other loooooong story, ending with "I hate them and I think I'm stuck with them!"

Thanks ladies, now I'm really glad I asked!!!
