  • I voted for Spanish b/c MH is PR & his family already speaks Spanish to DS, so I'm hoping he picks it up naturally. They did the same with our niece who is 5 now & she uses several Spanish words.

  • I voted Spanish, but I probably should have voted SS.  DH's parents speak Khmer (Cambodian) and my parents speak Tagalog, so I'm hoping those also rub off on LO.

In MS/HS, my dad wanted me to learn Spanish, but I was stubborn and took 5 years of Latin.  Nobody speaks Latin.  FAIL.  Spanish would've been so much more useful.

  • Yep. We actually plan on hiring someone to teach his Spanish once he's around 2 or 3. The school we plan on sending him for pre-k and up has Spanish for all grades as part of the curriculum as well.

And my Mom and I will teach him what little Portuguese we know/remember from my Grandma.

  • I speak French and Russian around the house, so I'm hoping Alec will pick them up.  I'm a littler nervous he'll get confused, but most people I know who speaks multiple languages pick them up at a very early age.
  • yes but not until school. And it will be any language...maybe Spanish or Mandarin, though, 'cause those are the most useful ones.

You speak French & Russian?! Impressive! I can speak spanglish :)

My Russian is really rusty, so I say only numbers and simple phrases right now.  That language is much easier to read than speak!  Do you have any Spanish cd's?  I play French nursery rhymes, and that really helps.  Speaking to Alec has really helped me brush up!

  • I'd like him to learn Spanish because I think it will be most beneficial for him later on. MIL speaks Spanish so if we end up moving near them I'm sure she'll help him pick some up.
