D.C. Area Babies

perinatal associates - did they limit your travel?

Morning!

Dr. Khoury  told us not to go to the Outer Banks next week since we needed to be close to the hospital at this point. (he told us this months ago when we asked about traveling during 3rd tri).  However, I didn't ask for clarification. I will when we have our appointment in 2 weeks.

If they told you not to travel in 3rd tri, what criteria did they give you? 1 hour away? 100 miles away? metro area only?

My in laws are in Richmond, so... I am wondering if we should go down that way. I was also thinking of doing a weekend with DH in Columbia, Md (he was born there).

opinions?

thanks and happy friday!

  • My dr had told me not to plan travel past the 30-week mark, that would be more than an hour away from the hospital.

  • your doctor might be concerned about the limited medical care on the Outer Banks. My doctor did not want me leaving the DC metro area but he said as long as I was near a hospital that had NICU services and I was comfortable delivering somewhere else that it was my choice.

i think this was his concern - he told me since we are high risk we would be considered the "plague" if we had issues.

I have heard the 1 hr away thing though, so I wondered if that was what he meant in general.

  • One hour away is what Perinatal Associates told me starting at 24w (which wasn't hard b/c even by then, I was uncomfortable sitting in the car for more than 30 minutes). Basically, you don't want to be anyplace without a high level NICU or a hospital you wouldn't be comfortable delivering at, doing bedrest at, or having your babies spend time at.

Personally, I would stay put. Just think how bad it would suck to be in Richmond or NC and be put on bedrest for the remainder of your pregnancy.

  • we definitely aren't going to the obx. I was just thinking about more local trips. but an hour away from Inova Fairfax at certain times of the day certainly isn't very far! haha.

  • He didn't want me more than an hour away my ENTIRE pregnancy--- but I was pretty high risk. Personally, I would not risk it!
