Balance Check In

One of the 7 B's of AP is Balance. From Dr. Sears:"In your zeal to give so much to your baby, it's easy to neglect the needs of yourself and your marriage. As you will learn the key to putting balance in your parenting is being appropriately responsive to your baby ? knowing when to say "yes" and when to say "no," and having the wisdom to say "yes" to yourself when you need help."What have you done to maintain balance this past week?

Re: Balance Check In

  • Today is my 9th wedding anniversary. DH and I went away for a night this past weekend, leaving DD with the ILs (we were visiting them for a few days after visiting my parents in FL, in case someone is confused after seeing my posts from Miami last week).

It was heavenly, except for the fact that I want to TTC right now and part of me felt like I was "wasting" a romantic getaway by using birth control. :(

Just lurking on the thread but congrats on your anniversary Anna! And yeah I had high hopes that we would TTC this past weekend but things did not go well. I made a poor decision to eat chili cheese fries from a fast food place and spent a long 24 hours with food poisoning and was completely wiped out the next day. That feeling of wasting a egg irks me so much...

I guess I will join in on balance since I'm here. There is not much balance on the agenda in the next few weeks, we have a lot of events/obligations, but DH and I did go to a concert a few weekends ago and had so much fun. Tickets went on sales yesterday for my favorite band and I bought them. So sometime in September DH and I will have date night on a week night, which is un heard of. I'm hoping to take a day off while DD goes to school towards the end of the month for my bday. I wanted to take a week off but work is too crazy and I'd be getting email and calls left and right...

  • We had LO's birthday party - which was a bit stressful to plan, but oh so fun once the day came. A lot of friends from the city came up to visit - many I had not seen in 3+ years. So that was great. Plus family. It was fun and LO had a blast.

We went into the city on July 4th and got to go to some "real" grocery stores and stock up. (and I donated my freezer stash)

And then... we went for a hike yesterday and I got to do some rock climbing, which I also have not done in about 3 years.

yipee! what a great 4 days!!!!

Today I am getting a ton of work done because I feel so darn good. DH is watching LO this week while I work on a project for our biz. It feels really good to have left my old job and now I only have one job to worry about plus parenting and being a good partner. I feel so much better. There is a ton to do, but I feel good about it.

  • Balance this week has been mostly about me and about letting Sean take more of the pressures of parenting. It's so easy for me to do do do and not ask him or even take him up on his offers to help with Ella Grace.

He is out of work right now and I asked him if he could start getting up with her once she is done nursing in the morning so I can sleep. This pregnancy is kicking my butt and I'm so tired all the time.

Today Ella Grace is off with the inlaws and she is even staying the night. Sean and I are currently sitting on the couch with our laptops, laughing at stupid day time television, and waiting on a frozen pizza to be done cooking.

  • I'm a bit late to the party because R and I were in AZ for the past 8 days, but during that stay, I left R with an uncle and went to get coffee, then took a 2 hour hike afterwards! Yay! A whole 3 hours of mommy time. I felt horribly guilty, but he was fine and enjoyed his time with his uncle.
