Results of our Autism screening

We have had lots of concerns about Riley's development in the last year. At first it was his language, then also the hitting and bitting plus sever tantrums. A few months ago we hired a behavorist/early intervention and she was convinced it was Autism. I was on the fence for a long while but a month ago decided it was time to get him tested and find out. We did the 3.5 hour test yesterday and recived some really great news. He is NOT on the specrum! His speech delay however is more sever than we previously thought.

While thrilled about it, it doesn't make the daily battles any less hard for the time being. He is still a very wild, loud, hyperactive, pleasure and attention seeking child. I spoke with his care cordinator today and we decided to add in occupational therapy to help us regulate the stimulation his body craves. It is still likely we could end up with an ADHD dx in a few yrs (his father has it) but he is still too young to be tested or know. I feel so luck and blessed despite the challanges the future holds. Thank you to everyone who reached out to me while we awaited this news.

To all the moms with concerns about thier child, Follow your gut! If you are worried get them tested, find out. If they have an issue, sevices are wonderful and so helpful.

Glad to hear he's not on the spectrum.  And good luck moving forward to help him with your other concerns.  I understand the struggle with a speech delay.

Our daughter has the same issues. She is not on the spectrum either, but was diagnosed with sensory processing disorder. We can really tell a difference now that she has started OT.

I"m glad you received good news.

If it helps, my niece was very similar to what you described, and when her speech therapy was stepped up, and she could learn to communicate better, she all around life and behavior improved a lot!

Great news on the autism front, but you're right, it doesn't make the day to day struggles any easier. You can check that off the list and move on to finding more answers and getting your little man the interventions & therapies he needs so he can be at his best. Bravo, mama! You are doing a wonderful job of meeting his needs!! He is a lucky little boy!
