Neat idea for favorite outgrown outfits

I just saw this in a magazine. You buy a newborn type doll, put the outfit on that, and put it on a display shelf or whatever. For those really expensive outfits that you can't imagine getting rid of. And then LO can even play with it later, if you want.

  • That's creepy. (I dated a guy whose mom had creepy dolls though, so maybe that's it- haha).

I have a friend whose mom made a quilt out of old clothes from when she was little and gave it to her when she went to college.

  • I was just going to say that sounds creepy as hell.

I have heard of people making quilts out of baby clothes, which sounds cute.

  • Yeah that is definitely creepy to me, I thought it was going to say "make a quilt" or something.
  • Then I guess my mom is creepy. That is what she did with my outfit she brought me home from the hospital in. She took a doll that I played with that looked real and dressed it in my outfit. She even placed it in a toy bassinet that I use to play with. I don't see anything creepy about it. It was a nice way to preserve an outfit she did want to get ride of or cut up to make a quilt with.
  • I can see how this would not be someone's style but how the heck is it creepy?

I plan on doing the quilt thing!

  • The doll idea isn't my style. I'll save my favorites over the next 18 years and make a quilt for him when he is older...maybe just a quilt for me. We don't have anything nice enough to warrant not slicing and dicing or donating.

  • I plan on keeping a few of my favorites from each girl and giving them to them when they get pregnant.  I have dresses from when I was a baby and it is fun to see my girls in my old baby dresses.

I did give DD1 some of the newborn jammies for her dolls and teddy bears, but to play dress-up with, not to preserve.

  • I kept all the kids coming home outfits and they are in a box in the closet. I don't really see the need to keep clothes that lo has outgrown. I would rather donate them to a thift store or a mother in need.

  • I don't get how this is creepy either.  I also seen this in American Baby magazine and it was really cute.  The dolls in the mag are knitted which I thought looked adorable.
