TTC After a Loss

Question for those have dogs or kids, probably tmi

My dh and I have two doxies, the dogs like to sleep in our bed. My question for everyone, when you have little ones or dogs, do you lock the dogs and the LO's out of the room when you want to get "romantic" with your DH? My dogs get to upset with us and we have to keep them out of the room. They make more noise outside of the room than us in the room.

Re: Question for those have dogs or kids, probably tmi

  • We usually send them out of the room, but they don't seem to mind. I usually find them sleeping on the couch or curled up together sleeping right outside the door.

Edit: I should clarify I am talking about our dogs lol.

  • I love that you posted this.  We have a bichon (see pic below) who sleeps in our bed.  She stays in the bed for "romance".  We have a king sized bed so we don't even notice she is there.  We used to put her in the kitchen but she'd cry, which was more distracting than actually having her in the bed!

  • LMAO - this is so my situation!  Our dogs go nuts when we start to get romantic.  I think its because they are protective and they think we're hurting each other.  We've never had to lock them out because they eventually self sooth themselves, but on occasion they won't back down and that's when I get annoyed.  I wonder if you fed them a kong with some stuffing in it, if that would do the trick (keeps them preoccupied).  That way if you still have to lock them out, at least they aren't messing with your head as you try to get it on LOL!
  • We just kick the dogs off the bed and make 'em chill on the floor for a bit. We have a king though so usually we only have to kick one off and he prefers the floor.

  • We lock them out.  We have to or else they will jump on the bed and interrupt.  However, if they are already asleep in their kennel beside the bed (they start off the night in the kennel then are allowed up in the bed to sleep in the morning) then they usually don't make a fuss. Turn on the TV or something to drown out the noise.

I also have a doxie. And she sleeps with us as well. But she is trained not to jump up on the bed herself. She had back surgery a couple years ago and so we have trained her not to jump up on anything. So DH  just puts her on the floor during romantic time. And she lays on the floor and stares pathetically up at us until we finish. Then we lift her back up on the bed.

My MIL has a doxie named Twinky.  She used to have one named Slinky!  So stinkin' cute!

  • hahaha I love this post so much!  Our min pin is told to go to her own bed and then we shut the door to our room (her bed is in the living room) - we have a really good thing going with our dog, she's great, no whining etc!  after we are done i open the door and if she feels like it she'll come back in and sometimes jump up to lay at the bottom of the bed while mama and daddy relax a bit or else she just chills in her own bed.

hahaa... I cracked up reading this. We BD during nap time or bedtime for our LO, when we dog sit the dog stays on the bedEmbarrassed He won't get off but he DOES NOT look!

  • Monty sleeps with us, sometimes he'll just curl up in the corner while we BD. But if we get to rambunctious he will jump on the floor as if we are bothering him. It is pretty funny, cause before he jumps off he will sigh like he's saying "Jeebus, again?!?!" lol

  • Lol...what a great post! We used to kick puppy out but he'd get stressed and go potty on the floor. Now, we keep the door open, and if he jumps on the bed a simple snap from mommy makes him jump down.

We have more of a problem with the cats. They have no regard for personal space, and snapping DEFINITELY does not work for them.
