Need tips for putting down a worn baby

My 8 week old happily falls asleep while being worn (easiest way to get her down right now).  Typically I have her in a woven wrap with a FWCC.  For the most part, I don't mind her napping that way, but I also have a 2 1/2 year old who wants me to get down and play trucks, etc.  Just can't do it while wearing DD.  Any tips on how to get her to lie in her crib after falling asleep in a wrap?  I try, but she always seems to startle awake.

I don't have any tips.  I think parents who don't babywear often struggle with this issue, too.  Sad

  • I know it's frowned upon, but when DS was little and sleeping on me, it was easiest to transfer him to his belly -- I think because the pressure on his chest/abdomen was constant.

  • We put our baby down on his belly now, too.  There were many factors that went into the decision but our pediatrician is supportive and we got the Snuza monitor which gives great peace of mind if you do want to try her on her stomach.  Anyway you may also consider using a heating pad to warm the crib mattress before laying her down- she's used to being warm snugged up on your body and probably notices the temperature change.  It is a tricky situation... I also struggle with whether to just let all naps happen in the sling or risk waking him up in the transfer out of it.

  • That sounds really normal at 8 weeks.  You can try easing your LO down when s/he is really out, but it just may not work for awhile.  I know it can be really hard to constantly have to hold/wear your LO and I get the frustration but often they just have to outgrow this stage.

  • Lurker*  My DD does this too, but we use a ring sling.  What we do should work for you as well and would be worth trying.  I hold her tight against my chest while I undo the ring so the sides are loose.  I then bring the side without the ring around between her body and mine.  There is no temprature shock, since the sling is still warm from my body.  I then wrap it up and around, effectivly creating a swaddle with the fabric.  This holds her tight, like the sling does when against my body.  When I lay her down, I lay her on her side.  If I put her on her back, she will startle awake.  HTH.
