All balsamic and red wine vinegars contain naturally occurring lead.
Lead is naturally absorbed by all things that grow in the ground,
including the grapes used to make vinegar. Most balsamic and red wine
vinegars have lead levels equal to or less than 34 parts per million. An
average person would need to consume 1 to 2 cups of balsamic or red
wine vinegar per day to reach the Proposition 65 lead level minimum
threshold, which includes a 1000-fold safety margin. -Napa Valley Naturals
I was just at Safeway and they have a big prop 65 warning on their vinagers.
I called the number and it was . 00098 % per part I think. Seems very small but the lead sign freaked me out.
You have to consume a lot for it to be an issue at that small a %. I wouldn't worry to much about it unless you at higher risk for lead issues due to well water, older pipes or if you live in an older home with pealing paint and are eating it.
Re: Lead in vinegar ???
I don't believe it's all vinegar.
