When are you starting solid foods?

I know that you're not "supposed" to start solid foods until at least 4 months of age. But, is anyone starting earlier or later?

I started DD #1 on solids at 3 months just after we ate supper. We started out with rice cereal with some fruit/veggies stirred into it for a little something extra. I *think* we'll do the same for DD #2, but not sure yet. We will wait until she can hold her head up no problem, I do know that for sure....

Re: When are you starting solid foods?

  • I think most doctors actually recommend closer to 6 months, but all babies are different.

My first was no where near ready, so we waited until after 6 months. It took her a few weeks to get the hang of it.

I plan on waiting until 6 months this time too. Unless she shows signs of needing more earlier than that.

Really? I feel so "out of the loop" all of a sudden! I thought for sure I started DD #1 out at 3 months.... Maybe it was 4 or 5 months.... Hmmm... Now you have me thinking!

  • 6-7 months.

  • 6 months. Many FTMs want to start earlier, but I'm in no hurry. They need to be able to sit up on their own before you start solids.

  • Not until at least six months, preferably a bit later.  I'm in no hurry to start messing around with dishes and mealtimes and mashed peas everywhere.
  • Probably around 5 months or so if she is ready.

  • I will wait as close to six months as possible. I don't really understand the desire to rush it ... EBFing is so much easier.

  • I started DS at 4.5 months because I was an overly-eager FTM and he was mostly FF anyways.  I plan to wait until at least 6 months with DD and then start when she seems ready. She is EBF.

  • At least 6 months, once he shows signs of being ready like losing the tongue-thrust reflex.
  • Our pedi said 4 months if we felt comfortable because she is already over double her birth weight. We will probably wait until 6 months though unless she starts showing signs she is ready and able. These are some of the signs I'm watching for: https://wholesomebabyfood.momtastic.com/readyforsolids.htm
