High Risk OB

Hi I just found out I am 5 weeks and I am looking for a High Risk OB in the DC,VA,MD area. I have type 1 diabetes and my OB now just retired so I am starting from scratch. Does anyone have any suggestions? I heard the OB practice at GWU Hospital is really good, anyone familiar with them? I want to get in as soon as possible to make sure everything is ok. So any suggestions would be great!!! I am so excited!!

They are in Alexandria and handle high risk pregnancies.  Marc Siegel is who I've gone to and he was really good.  All the docs there deliver at Inova Alexandria.

Where do you want to deliver?  That would help us narrow it down for you.

  • For my high-risk twin pregnancy, I saw Perinatal Associates of Northern Virginia, who delivery at Inova Fairfax. They are known to be some of the best MFM/high-risk doctors in the area.
  • I have heard some really great things about Inova. Is it hard to get an appointment with these Dr's? And is this like a group were you see a bunch of Dr's or do you see the same one every time? Thanks so much for your help, I have only lived in this area a few years and feel completly clueless.

I think they are good hospitals.

The PFW group is a bunch (5 I think) of dr's, but you can see whomever you like.  You should see everyone throughout your pregnancy though, b/c you never know who's going to be on call when you go into labor.  I was apprehensive about it until I met them all and then I was ok with whoever would deliver me.

ETA: I've never had a problem getting in to see them (or make an appt)

  • Hi,

I also saw the Perinatal Associates of Northern Virginia.  I spent 4 weeks on bedrest at the Fairfax Hospital before I delivered my daughter at 32 weeks.  It's a practice of 4 doctors and you see all of them so that they all know your case if you  have to deliver unexpectedly, like I did.   They took great care of me and I'm not certain I would have carried to 32 weeks if it wasn't for their care.  My complications began at 22 weeks and I first went to a perinatalogist at INova Alexandria and he was very rude and told me it was not likely my baby would survive.  Well, she's a thriving 15 month old now and I credit the great care of the doctors I saw at Fairfax. I have read some reviews that 2 of the doctor's don't have the best bedside manner, but I found it really depended on how you spoke with them and if you asked questions they would always answer them. I'll be seeing them again for future pregnancies.
