best orchard/farm?

I'm trying to make special time for my little man a few times a month, & thought he would LOVE to go pick fresh fruit! He loves being outdoors & that is basically his only food group.

Any recommendations on where to go?

Re: best orchard/farm?

  • Where do you live? I've never been to pick fruit specifically, but we live in downtown Indy and go to a couple of local farms for seasonal things. Apple Works down near Trafalgar is super cute and has a lot of activities. I know they have apple orchards, but I'm not sure what's going on there in the summertime. We head north to Stony Creek Farm in Noblesville to cut down our Christmas Tree but they also have a petting zoo and other activities. Not sure about other fruit orchards, per se, but I know there are some out there. Let us know if you hear of some - we'd love to take our kids sometime too!

I've been to Stuckey Farm and Stoney Creek Farm.  Both were great.

  • Spencer Farm in Noblesville--off of 146th st & river road.  Right now they have blueberries.  Stuckey is good for apples--usually starts in mid-August.

  • Not a farm, but have you toured Trader's Point Creamery?  You and your kiddos can get somewhat close up to the cows and calves and there are usually chickens running around.  You can also watch them bottle their yogurt and they do have ice cream in their cafe for a little treat afterward.  I took DD w/some friends and all the kids enjoyed it immensely (even DD - she liked watching the animals).

  • I'm really late on this post (just joined the site) but for fruit & veggies we go to Waterman's farm market https://watermansfarmmarket.com/  and in the fall we go to Tuttles's Orchard https://www.tuttleorchards.com/  to get our apples and pumpkins.

Also, someone mentioned Trader's point. My DD loves Trader's Point Creamery and they have a Farmer's Market in the summer on Friday nights, and on Saturdays in the barn in the winter time.

  • If you are ever in the NWI area I highly recommend County Line Orchard!  Check out their website... https://www.countylineorchard.com/  It is located in Hobart, IN and if you take I-65 and get off the Merrillville exit it is about 20 min. from there.  It is beautiful, clean, and there is tons to do especially in the fall when apple picking season starts and then follows in to the pumpkin season...have fun!

  • I love love love Beasley's orchard in Danville. They have great festivals in the fall along with a corn maze and hay rides. And most importantly, the best apple cider anywhere!
