Toddler moms do you shower when DC is awake?

if so where are they when you are in the shower? DH is outside mowing and I really need to clean when DS naps so I am debating on jumping in the shower now. I am so nervous about letting DS have the house to roam......
WDYD when you are home alone and need to shower when DC is awake?

Re: Toddler moms do you shower when DC is awake?

  • When I shower and M is awake, I close the bedroom door and put on one of her shows in our room.

  • I either have her in the bathroom with me, or I put her in the pack and play.  I have left her in the LR with the tv on (gasp) and she has been completely fine.  M is pretty independent though.

  • Sometimes DD comes in with me (this means no leg shaving to keep the shower quick for me!) and sometimes I'll just close the gate upstairs and let her roam. Our house is well baby-proofed and I can virtually guarantee that she'll spend most of her time rearranging my clothes in my closet. Sometimes she doesn't mind but sometimes she is extremely unhappy about being left alone, depends on her mood. I only do it occasionally.
  • I lock her in our master bedroom with me.  We have a separate shower & bathtub, so I can see her playing (usually in the empty bathtub) and keep an eye on her while I shower.  There's no door b/t our bedroom and bathroom, so she does play with our alarm clocks and get into stuff, but it's pretty baby-proofed and if I bring Legos or get out a bag of my old makeup, she'll stay pretty busy with that for 10 minutes or so.
  • I always shower after the kids are in bed.  But could you lock him in the bathroom with you while you shower?

  • At that age, I remember once being totally stuck (dh was late coming home and I was going out to a party) and putting him in front of the tv with strict strict instructions not to move an inch until I came back. But he was the kind of kid who would listen. If you have a roamer, I wouldn't do it, especially since it's just because you need to clean!
  • I do but both DS's can only roam a certain part of the house (and it's very baby-proofed) and I can see most of it from our shower.  I put a gate up at the bathroom door so they can't get into the toilet and I peek out every now and then.  Nine times out of ten though they are waiting for me at the gate though.

  • Yes, I just put the gate up and she stays in our room while a shower watching TV.  She is so attached to my hip right now that she normally stays in the bathroom and chit chats anyway so it isn't an issue.
  • I usually put the baby gate up in the door to his room and he is happy to play.
  • If I wake up and she's playing nicely in her bed, I'll jump in the shower before I get her, but I always take the monitor into the bathroom.

If she's awake, I just lock her in the bathroom with me. Usually she ends up in the shower with me. I wouldn't let her roam the house - who knows what she'd get into?

  • I just take DS in there with me if I am that desperate. Our shower is in the tub, so he just sits in the end away from the spray an plays with bath toys.

  • I do.

I put on a show...they will usually stay in the living room if a cartoon is on...not always watching the cartoon, but playing with toys or whatever.

OR, I put them in the tub with me...they play with their toys, get sprinkled with the shower...I get my shower.  Then I get out, get my bathrobe on, and clean them up.

  • He usually showers with me. He plays with his bath toys at my feet and gets clean at the same time I do.

  • DS is 3, and I usually shower at night after bedtime or when he naps.....if I shower with him awake I put the T.V on in our bedroom, and he'll sit and watch while I shower (ensuite). Or he plays with some of his toys in the bathroom with me.
  • I always took a shower when Jack was that age. I locked the upstairs gate. The rest of the upstairs is proofed for him. He'd usually play in the bathroom while I showered or roamed around some.
  • Sometimes I do.  I usually just shut the door to my bedroom so she can only play in my bedroom/bathroom and then I take a quick shower.
  • You better send CPS after me--I let Nora roam around while I shower.  The vast majority of the time, she's in the bathroom the entire time or right outside of it.
  • I usually jump in while she's really interested in playing with something in her room or watching a show. She'll usually end up jumping in with me. We have a jack and jill bathroom so I leave both doors open in the bathroom and close our room doors so she only has free range of the bedrooms.

  • I'm with FFG- I let him roam.  We have a lever handle on our master bedroom door, so he just opens it and walks out.  I put cartoons on, and I make it fast, so (knock on wood) he will usually peek his head in the bathroom, and keep playing.
    Happy 4th birthday!
