February 2012 Moms

I just want to poo.

And I can't.

I've tried apple juice, eating lots of fruits (apples, peaches, nectarines, strawberries, grapes) and I drink water alllllllll day long.

HELP!

Re: I just want to poo.

  • Oh man, I hear you!  I was finally able to go but for like 3-4 days I couldn't.  It was miserable.

I added fiber to my juice, water and cereal.  I ate prunes and drank alot of water.  It still took awhile but eventually it helped.

  • Beans, beans, the magical fruit, the more you eat, the more you... poop?

Seriously, though, fiber is your friend. Check out this website for some ideas:

  • I totally understand!  I was having an awful time the last few weeks, even though I was eating everything I was supposed to.  Things are finally getting better now.  I started running again this past weekend and also started doing yoga again, so I'm thinking that helped.  Have you been working out at all?  I've heard even going on a few 10 minute walks a day can help.
  • Prunes do it for me.  At work I give my patients warm prune juice.  Ew, I know, but it usually does the trick.

  • Dried apricots (just 2-3) usually do the trick for me. Don't eat too many though! ;)

Also, I know a lot of people don't like cabbage, but it works great for this.

    And lots of water.

  • My magic trick is a spinach smoothie (1-2 handfuls of baby spinach) with 2 tbsp of ground flax seed.  Add any other poo inducing fruit and some almond milk and ice (if you are using fresh fruit). Blend it and drink it in the AM.  By the next morning I am guarenteed to have a BM,

Otherwise the apple juice trick tends to work for me too, but not always. GL.

  • OMG You are SO not alone.  I am right there with ya and all the PPs.  Man, I've never experienced this before but dang, it's no fun...BUT the payoff in 7 months will be totally worth it...

  • I usually have this problem when Im NOT pregnant. I take fiber pills everyday to help me stay "regular" but for some reason when Im pregnant I poo better than when Im not, weird, I know. Anything with fiber will help you a ton.

  • OMFG I didn't think of beans (i hate them) so maybe I'll suffer through it and scarf some down tonight.

Also - I didn't realize that whole wheat spagetti had so much fiber?!  What about regular spagetti?  I could probably eat cooked noodles with some butter all day!!!

    Get out of my brain!

I'd also add a recommendation for prunes.  I've been eating a serving (5 prunes) a day for one of my snacks and I think it is helping.

  • My boss swore by 3 TAB flax seeds/day. I had this problem for the first 2 weeks, and was considering trying it, but then my body switched so I haven't had to yet.

  • I've given up.  I've tried everything and it seems like no matter what, it takes 3 days.  :(

Have you tried greasy food or coffee?

Sugar is supposed to help but since you have already tried apple juice that might not help, garlic makes me have to go as well.

I've tried McDonalds, Taco Bell, and Chipotle (I know chipotle isnt really that greasy, but I've always had to poop afterwards!) and nothing.  I haven't gone in about 5 days... :/

I haven't tried Coffee - but I might get an ice capp at tim horton's later and see if that helps.  :/ Thanks girls

  • Hot coffee, not cold.  Warm liquids stimulate peristalsis and get things moving along.

Ahh, I didn't know this.  I just was basing it off of the fact that every other time I get an ice capp from TH I get theshits. LOL!

  • Well, to be honest I havent had a good one since before TTC! Its always been an issue with me, but I have kept it pretty OK with fiber one cereal and such... however since the prenatals and the Zofran both added to the problem, I had to resort to an enema. May not be enjoyable but hey- it works and it isnt as bad as you'd think.
  • If it gets too bad you could try a dose of Miralax. I was constipated for days and that finally worked for me. Before that I had tried fiber one yogurts, a bean burrito with an extra side of beans, apple juice, strawberries, frosted mini wheats - everything! One dose of Miralax produced a BM after not having one for 5 days. After that eating lots of Fiber helped keep me more regular. Good luck!
