Pregnant after IF

I have an irrational fear of beta draws

I know my betas have been good so far but I'm scared to get my last draw tomorrow.  With my previous pregnancy, the 3rd beta was the one that pointed towards an ectopic pregnancy.  I know this pregnancy is most likely not ectopic this time around.  But I'm still scared that the numbers will come back wrong :(

I keep having terrible dreams about it.  I cannot sleep.  I just can't wait until tomorrow is over.

Was/is anyone else as irrational as me?

Re: I have an irrational fear of beta draws

  • I was worried with each one and then each u/s. I think it is normal for all that we have been through to be apprehensive. I hope you are able to rest easy with a nice high number today! Good luck! :)

  • I was the same way b/c of IF and a previous ectopic. I was an anxious ball of nerves the first month or so....it is totally normal for all you have been through. Hang in there sweetie!

  • I was really anxious about every appointment until I was probably 16-18 weeks. . I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I think it is part of our IF self-preservation, somewhere, deep down, we don't want to allow ourselves to love too much because we don't want to get hurt again.

    Your feelings are totally normal.

I hope tomorrow's beta is great and that you begin to let go of the fear! ((hugs))

  • Lots of luck - its totally natural to still be anxious before these appointments.  FWIW, I'm 22 weeks and my heart still races when I walk into the OB office....

  • Thanks for making me feel better ladies.  I feel so stupid sometimes for having fear every single time I go to the RE, even if all I've been getting is good news.  This sucks.

  • Its ironic you posted this because I was just going to come and post a new topic on betas.  I have the same irrational fear.  And I actually just emailed my RE and asked her if it would be obnoxious if I came for a 4th (!!) beta tomorrow as it would ease my mind for the weekend since my first u/s is scheduled for Monday.  Knowing my beta is still doubling will get me over the weekend hurdle...otherwise I'm going to go crazy.  Good luck with your next one!

I can understand that, I have a tentatively scheduled ultrasound for Monday, pending tomorrows beta draw.  I think that's what has got me so nervous, making it to the ultrasound stage.  I hate betas :(

I hate betas too and I had to wait until the second one for results. And then another week for u/s. I was very scared of not seeing anything.
Good luck! Just remember to breath.

  • I'm sure your number will be great! The wait is torture!

  • I still get very anxious before every OB and peri visit. And I hated the betas with a passion, especially since my second didn't quite double in 48 hours. Hang in there, I can't wait to hear the fabulous news from your u/s:)

  • I think it's completely normal!  The only nausea/morning sickness I ever felt was leading up to beta results or those first few u/s.  So nerve-wracking!!  Hope all goes well tomorrow!
