I checked out the natural birth's board, but I just wanted to see what and if anyone had any thoughts/experiences with water birth.

I've been considering it. I've been told not to have a labor plan because they never work. I just have recently seen so many episodes on TLC with water birthing, and it looks so peaceful. Not that labor is going to be a breeze, but it seems like water birth is more relaxing and the women are always much more calm.

I'm a sucker with pain, so I may end up opting out because you can't get an epidural with water birth. Have any of you ladies had a water birth or thought of it too? Just curious.

We are not having a water birth, but our hospital has a birthing tub that I hope to be able to labour in. I think a water birth sounds awesome, if I could have one, I would.

We also have a birthing tub, but for legal reasons are not allowed to give birth in there. I plan on using it during labor!

I witnessed a water birth last year. Its not my thing (not a fan of long baths), but I can see why its appealing. If its an option, I'll likely ask to labor in a tub or shower for part of the time. I've heard it feels amazing to get in the tub while in the midst of labor. One of my friends said once she got in the tub she started falling asleep between contractions she relaxed so much.

I'm so jealous! I would love a water birth. There might be a tub in the hospital I'm birthing at, but I'm not sure what the policy says about how long you can labor there. I hope you get that fabulous birth experience!!!

Water births look so peaceful as opposed to the "regular" way where they're screaming and losing their sh!t on the table.. That being said, I don't know if I'm down with chilling in the water with all the birth matter floating around me.

I'm going to a hospital (not many birth centers around here) so I don't know their policies on that... It would be nice to labor in a tub for a little while. I'm not sure what to expect.... It looks like it hurts.

With the waterbirth I witnessed, they let momma hold the baby for a few mins. She then had to get out of the tub to deliver the placenta. The water was a little discolored from blood during delivery (mostly the mommas, she had a bad tear), but there were no floaters.

Talk to your doctor before you research too much - some don't allow it! In the practice I go to, only the midwives will allow it, not the OBs.

I was talking to my doctor about why they don't and they said that they don't because it is really unsanitary for everybody involved and they found that that distracted them from the overall process of the birth, so they thought that it was better if they don't allow it.

At my hospital we can labor in the tub (they have nice jacuzzi tubs in every room) and that's what I plan on doing. Unfortunately they don't allow you to actually have the baby in it (so sad).

I agree with the general response from everyone else, I will definitly labor in the tub for awhile, but need to check with my midwife about being able to give birth in the tub. I co-worker of mine went to the same midwife and did have a water birth (I think laws may have changed since then) and she said it was the most amazing thing ever and HIGHLY reccomended it to me. But I'm not making any concrete plans - it's ultimatley not up to me in the end anyways.
