I'm planning on doing this. I read the book (Baby-Led Weaning by Gill Rapley, Tracey Murkett) and really liked the basic concept of it. I'd recommend you reading that - it walks you through the how and the why of it and answers FAQs.
From what I gathered, it's not something you would do before 6 months, though...
Most likely not what you were referring to, but baby weaned himself ONTO a bottle from me. We had to supplement from birth, and he refused to latch after 5 weeks.

BLW is a misleading name, IMO. What you are referring to is most commonly called child-led weaning. BLW has to do with the introduction of solid foods.
I am going to buy the book soon and will not start until 6-7 months. I am also completely skipping cereals this time, they were nothing but trouble.

I was just reading up on this today! DS was mostly on formula due to supply issues and I started cereal at 4 months. I was just so eager to start him on solids and they ended up being a pain. This time BFing is going great and I really want to delay solids until at least 6 months. I am going to read the Baby-led Weaning book, but I'll probably just relax this time and do a combo. I'll definitely skip cereals and I really don't want to bother with making a ton of purees this time. Way too time-consuming now that I have 2 under 2.
Food in the first year is really just for fun. It's easy to start worrying about how much they are eating, but it doesn't matter as long as they are getting breastmilk/formula. Just take your time and let them decide when they are ready.

What was your trouble with cereal?
We just couldn't find one that he would eat. We tried it all, homemade oatmeal/rice/barley, storebought, organic, etc. I am just talking about the first foods type, he was fine with cheerios.

I am skipping cereals this time too. Rachel never really dug them, and it was way more work and not a lot of payoff. I plan to do some homemade purees (SO easy to do) and some BLW aspects too.
Re: Baby led weaning? Edited for spelling nazi.
