KellyMarie re: CW

First off just a FYI I have been a bad girl...so so naughty!

Also about the doula thing...I have been being talked to lately about a lot of things in regards to birthing this baby. And for whatever its worth I wanted to talk with you about it. Becasue you saw me with Jonathan..but mostly because my gut just says you have a knack for it and I can trust your thoughts on birthing type things.

So I guess I will just ask my question now...I am being pushed to do a c-section, due to the pubic bone pain being more advanced this time. Not happening I am not going to choose that. But now short of that I am being pushed to get an epidural. Not going to do that either. But I do want to hear if you think my deleivery (not the labor but the pushing) was different than others you have seen. Like the anount of pain etc... Its important to me to do this natural...and I am going to. But I feel like its important to be honest with my self and know what to expect...Does any of that make sense??

  • I feel pretty hesitant to give any advice, since I am not an OB, midwife OR doula. I would really  really go over all of your options with your OB. I would be interested to know how open he/she is to you trying for a natural birth again.

That said, I'm not sure if you were aware at J's birth, but I was right there with everyone telling you that you should get the epidural. You were just in a position where because of the pubic bone pain you weren't allowing yourself to open up the way you needed to be. The epidural helped (duh, you know this) but J still needed the vaccuum. I guess the question is, are YOU ok with that outcome again? Does your OB prefer C-sect over Vac? I would also talk to your doctor about putting off the epidural until later into your labor. In *my* personal experience with G, the epidural totally stalled my labor, I needed pit. So maybe you can labor naturally until time to push?

Again, not an expert, doctor, midwife or doula...so talk to your OB about the options.and/ Or Email Teri. She knows a whole heck of a lot more than I do!

  • Thanks for your thoughts.

Basically perinatologist suggested c section...mom, sister and Tony like the idea. Mom and sister more than Tony though...But this is not being planned. My actual OB is useless so even if he 100% agrees with me I dont care...LOL

I look at it this way..yea recovery and pain from the pubic sysmp. sucks but at least its a pain I know instread of a new one like a csection I dont know the pain.

Beyond that epidural is being pushed by family. But I really really dont want to. So I am not going to.

But I just wanted a different set of fresh eyes. I have no memory of you talking epidural when everybody else was. Funny I always have been embarrassed by it so its good to know you were with them thinking it was a good idea...

  • Totally butting in, obviously, but if anyone can handle a c-section recovery, it's you Libs. Does it hurt after? Yes. The first day for me was really painful because I wasn't allowed to move at all (blood transfusion). But otherwise, it's not too terrible. You are going through much worse with the pubic separation.

I'm sure there are other reasons you don't want one and that's totally your prerogative, just wanted to throw out there that if recovery was a worry, it shouldn't be for you. I know you would be a rock star.

And I think Kelly should be a doula, too. :)

I don't think I'm following this correctly -- you're trying to choose between a c-section and an epidural, right?  Generally an elective section gets an epidural (or a spinal), so you'd be having both.  If you opt for vaginal delivery, you probably already know it's best to stick to side-lying positions for pushing, or on hands and knees, but definitely not on your back with your legs being pushed back, then get a hip binder to wear for your recovery.  My understanding with symphysis separation is that it's generally less severe, or at least no worse, with subsequent labors.  Visiting a good chiropractor who's trained in Webster technique would be the first thing I'd do in my last trimester, were it me.
