AW: First 5K Race!

Hello Ladies! I ran my first race ever on the fourth with a good friend of mine. It was so fun-I think I'm addicted now! My race time was 36:38-a bit slow, but I'll take it! Especially as I could not run half a mile in January!

I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend!

  • Congrats. I wish I was a runner... any secrets?

  • Good Job!  I have run a few, but never got addicted and it was always a chore to run.  I wish I got addicted as DH is really in to different races and it would be nice to share that with him (happily and not forcing myself).
  • Good for you!  Encouraging to know that you have made such progress!  To date, I have never even jogged a mile despite all the time I clocked at the gym for YEARS.  Just can't do it.  I am always impressed by runners!

Thank you! I started with C25K in January and have kept with it. I think the secret is consistency-I run every Mon/Wed/Fri and some times Sat. I make myself run no matter what (headache, period, upset stomach) and I always feel better after I run. Also, don't try to do too much too fast. If you follow the program you will do great.

What makes it addicting for me is being amazed at what my body can actually do-that I can actually run 3 mi, 5mi, or even 6mi. It is just incredible for me, who never ran, to to build up to longer and longer runs.

Thank you! I always hated running and actually feared running (especially in public). Following the C25K program built my confidence and actually made me enjoy running for the first time ever. I sound like a commercial. Lol

That's great! My first 5K was a LOT slower than that, so I think you're doing a fantastic job! Maybe someday I'll get back into running so I can do another one next spring.
  • Congrats! That is fantastic :)

Thank you ladies! My friend wants me to do a half marathon with her in the fall- I think it is called the Empire State Marathon. I think she's nuts, but I'll keep running and see if I'm anywhere close to being able to run 13 miles come October. At this point it is a stretch...but we'll see. One step at a time!
