This morning I decided to start up a batch of carrots. I think I made more of a mess than anything. I steamed them, and then put them in the food processor with formula. Then I discovered that the mini food processor my mom loaned me is too small, so right now I'm using the blender. Hopefully that'll go better. I also had to invest in bigger ice cube trays. A more square "plump" ice cube. So while I was out and about, I picked up some organic acorn and butternut squash along with bananas at Kroger.
Re: I'm a hot mess!
Roasting butternut and acorn squash now. I kinda like doing this.
As I was scooping the seeds out of the squashes, DH goes, "You should dry those seeds out. We'll plant them next year and grow our own."
I smiled and said, "See my thumbs? They're orange from pureeing carrots...not green, snookums."
I'm impressed and you have me getting more interested in making my own food for DD!!!
Thanks Amy! It hasn't been that bad making it. If all goes well with the carrots, I'll introduce some squash Friday.
I'm really happy that I'm doing this. As I was checking out the baby food at the grocery store, I was reading all the ingredients. I noticed a lot of preservatives.
I'm dairy, soy and egg free right now and have realized that soy is in EVERYTHING. I am starting to hate that everything has fillers and sh!t so I think I want to make at least some of my own food of course I will also have jarred food for her too just in case the whole making my own doesn't pan out or I get lazy.
I am glad you went for the blender! I think it is so much easier when you can make a HUGE batch and then you don't have to make it all the time. That is why I think the baby bullet is just silly b/c you can't make weeks at a time, or you have to do it in tiny batches!
The other great thing is that you can do such cool flavor combo's that you can't find in the jarred foods. My 2 yo still loves when I make Kale-pple sauce!
Yes! I ditched the food processor after the first messy batch of carrots. I've got a great cook book with lots of interesting combos.
It's great you can take sometimes "yucky" foods and make them appealing!
If you don't mind me asking, what cook book do you have?? I am not making baby food just yet, but plan to start in the coming months...

I don't like how they want you to introduce so many fruits in the beginning, but it is nice. It goes all the way through the toddler years. There's lots of great cook books out there. This is just the one I picked. Kinda did the whole eenie meanie minie moe...did I even come close to spelling those words right?
Let me know how the immersion blender goes. I wasn't too thrilled using my blender either. I really don't want to break down and spend the money on a Kitchen Aid food processor, but I see QVC has a Ninja! Maybe I'll try that?
