Ok, so I went back to work yesterday and H is now home with LO. She was doing really well with the Advent bottles but about 2 weeks ago she stopped taking them. Now, we were giving her the Nuk bottles and she was taking them. Now she is NOT taking any bottles...we have tried a medicine dripper as her ped told me too. Not taking that anymore either. Is anyone else having this problem? What have you done about it?
People at work are telling me just to let her be and she will take the bottle if she gets hungery enough. I don't think that starving your child is the correct answer. Plus she just gets more mad if she doesn't eat. Please ladies I need your help! TIA!
Re: HELP PLEASE!!- Bottle strike
What worked for us was making the experience as similar to BFing as possible. For example, same chair, same boppy, laying on her side, angling the bottle where my nipple would be (& then slowly rolling her more on her back once she was in a good rhythm to be able to finish the bottle), etc.
Also, we found it was very important for the feeder to be totally chill & relaxed & not let her resistance fluster them. If DD started to freak out they would not force the bottle right then. They'd get up, walk around, take DD outside for a bit of fresh air, etc. Then try the bottle again later once she was relaxed again.
I know the last thing you want to hear is "if she's hungry enough she'll eat". It took about 4-5 days of trying before DD took a full bottle without freaking out. We had some practice days before I returned to work.
It isn't the complete end of the world if she eats minimally while you are gone b/c she will just reverse cycle & eat all night from you once you are home. I know that is nerve-wracking in the meantime, but hang in there & it will work itself out
