...so I'm pretty much stuck on this glider issue. It's the last piece we need to be relatively done with the nursery. They're all hideous to me, and I'm not into paying a ton of money for something I think is kinda ugly (with the exception of the million dollar Pottery Barn Kids ones). If you are also in this boat, what kind of alternatives are you coming up with? I'd love to see some out of the box thinking on this item. Otherwise, it's ikea city for me---which would feel kinda regressive.
Re: glider alternatives...
BRU has some great gliders, similar to the Pottery Barn Kids gliders but not as expensive. We are getting one next week and we loved in when we tried it in the store.

My parents were looking to get rid of an old recliner chair, so they gave it to us. I bought a slipcover online (it was about $60), so now the recliner looks brand new and matches the nursery. We had previously looked at gliders, but found them all to be way too expensive, and the ones we had tried out in person all seemed a bit shaky... could just be that the floor models were worn out, but we like this recliner so much better! It's a little bigger than a glider, but it'll work just fine.
I want to do one of these Ikea chairs...

For me they have just the right amount of bounce, take up less space, have no pinching parts, and won't annoy the crap out of my downstairs neighbor. Plus my SIL has one and they are super comfy.
I think the regular wooden gliders are hideous too. I just couldn't get one of those, so I stalked craigslist religously until one was posted that I liked. It is very similar to this one but in a cream color: https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3096501 and has an ottoman too. I only paid $100 for it too, so definite bonus!
If I hadn't found this, I would have just purchased an armchair instead that didn't glide, rock or swivel.
I think we're going to start with this option as well, although we're going to try the Poang rocking chair.

We had a glider my mom had bought for her house but gave it to me. It broke within a year and I didn't care for it as it wasn't that comfortable. I was recently at my inlaws and saw a smaller lazy boy type chair that was brown, it rocks and swivels so I asked my MIL how much I could buy it from her for. (its in their garage) and she gave it to me. I just have to get DH or BIL to drop it off here. Someone posted a question about chairs about a month ago and there was a suggestion from walmart or target, I can't remember but it looks like a nice comfy chair and its around 200. Really nice. Maybe look through to find that post.
We got this upholstered rocker from wal-mart with an ottoman and slipcovers...all for $298! I really am pleased with it! (You can find it on their website by searching 'dorel rocker'.)
That's a great deal! Has it arrived? Is it comfortable?
This is exactly which one I was referring to. No need to search for the post. =D
This sounds a lot like what we have. I liked the look of it better than the wooden gliders. Plus it is way comfortable. The best part for me was I got it off Craigs List for a lot cheaper than what I found in store.
