So when I was in my appointment last week, there were a few questions I asked based on paperwork I received from my dr's office plus some things that weren't mentioned that I've seen listed as no-nos. Some of these things were:
1. That I could eat deli meat.
2. That I could have most cheeses, including Brie, if it says pasteurized on the label
3. That I could have green tea.
4. That I could have any other herbal teas I wanted, as long as I didn't make them myself.
All within moderation of course. Did your doctor say anything to you along these lines that you were surprised about? Are you going to eat/drink any of these "no-nos"?
Re: Surprising things your Dr told you
Why can't you make your own herbal tea? Maybe I'm missing something obvious here....
Not to worry about PNVs while I'm battling with MS. She said LO will get what he needs from my body, and I'll suffer but baby will be fine.
But one MS is gone or I can handle them, I need to start taking them again.
Don't need to worry about liquid intake now. It matters much more later when baby is using/recycling amniotic fluid.
I honestly think if we stayed away from every single little thing that MIGHT harm us or our little ones we wouldn't be able to eat or drink anything...or live in our homes...or live anywhere. So I've decided to pick a few things to be paranoid about, (like I'm not going to eat pounds of tuna every day, I'm staying away from caffeine, and avoiding deli meat from places I don't really trust, and I don't really even like sushi), and sticking with that.

Oh, I completely agree! Just after reading all the "you can'ts" before I got pregnant, it was interesting to really hear what you can't and can from a dr's perspective. I trust them a lot more than some book written by someone I don't know.
I just had my first appointment today as well. I was pleasantly surprised with how reasonable they were. Deli meats are okay (as long as they are not close to expired) and cheese is a go as well (though keep it pastuerized). She only nixed the usual- booze, caffine and sushi and sports that could involve a hit to the stomach. It's refreshing to not have people trying to freak you out and make you think that everything could/will harm the baby.
After 2 1/2 years TTC, 3 IUI's, endo, and a lap, a surprise BFP brought us Alexandra Marie!
This is my 4th pregnancy and we moved halfway, so I've had 2 different OBs and I crack up at how they differ on some of these things. One said absolutely NO caffeine, the other says "moderation". One even OK'ed wine in late pregnancy to help me sleep (though I was too afraid to do that) and the other OK'ed Tylenol PM for sleep...and after talking with other Moms, its amazing how different each OB is about the importance of certain tests, flue shots, things to avoid, etc.
I feel like the main thing is to trust your doc (and if you have any hesitation on that, find a new one) and trust your instincts!!
I agree about the differences. My RE said no deli meat for me and caffine is ok in moderation.
Oh and I almost fell over when she said to expect to gain 20-25 pounds during pregnancy. I want a healthy baby but WHAT!! I certainly hope I don't gain THAT much...
Here's a link to where you gain that weight: . Weight gain during pregnancy. It didn't sound as bad when I thought of it this way.
This. 20-25 pounds is on the very small side of normal weight gain
I think it means "making your own herbal tea" as in, growing the plants yourself and brewing it into a tea -- for the same reasons you're not supposed to garden. Your garden could've gotten exposed to anything from cat poop to pesticides, and you do NOT want to be drinking that!!

Ditto, 20-25 lbs of weight gain during pregnancy is not a lot.
20-25 isn't much. I think I gained 30 (maybe more?) with DD and I was back in my pre-pregnancy jeans in 3 weeks.
