AABC Ultrasound Question

For those of you that used AABC, did you only receive one ultrasound (the anatomy scan)? I gathered this from someone's review I read online recently but wasn't sure if they received one ultrasound simply because that's all they wanted.

I am certain at this point that this is where I would like to go for prenatal care/birth (ruled out home birth and any OB in San Marcos). I was just wondering if there is an option for an early pregnancy ultrasound to confirm a uterine pregnancy (or dating, or whatever the case may be)?

Re: AABC Ultrasound Question

  • I am going there but I'm still really early.  My first appt was at about 5 weeks and I just had another yesterday.  I have not had an u/s yet.  Yesterday she said that if she hadn't heard the heartbeat (which she did) that she would schedule one.  We do have one scheduled for about 2 1/2 weeks from now but that's for the First Trimester Screen. I haven't come out and asked but I'm under the impression that the gender scan is the only one (unless you request and pay for one or have one for testing/ issues or they don't find a heartbeat.)

I'm not positive but I think you can request one but it's not included in the cost so you have to pay for that at the time that they do it.  I could be wrong about this though.

    Thank you!

If you don't mind answering- are you paying separately for the first trimester screening? Are you doing it through AABC? How much is it costing? I completely understand if you do not want to answer!

I don't mind answering.  I asked alot of questions like this before and it was always helpful to me when people answered.  Yes, I am paying separately for the screening.  It's costing me $35 (which is either my co-pay fee or b/c I have to pay 10%- not sure which is "how" they're charging me that.)  The whole cost is $350 I think.  I am doing it through AABC.  At my first visit they gave me a list of optional screens/ tests that could be done.  That's the only one of them that we're having.   We just had a 9 week visit and at that visit we made the appt for the screen to be done in a couple of weeks.

I don't know how helpful I'll be but feel free to ask whatever questions you have.  I'll be happy to help if I can.

    That's super helpful! Thank you.

In a previous relationship, my husband had a daughter that was diagnosed with Downs. She passed away during the 3rd trimester.  They had genetic testing done and determined it wasn't the genetic form, but it's still something we are both concerned about because he's been faced with the reality of it before. That's great to hear we have the option of doing it if we go through AABC, because I was thinking it wasn't an option at all.

Are you using the Central or South location? We'd be using the south location as it's closer to San Marcos.

  • We're using the central location because we live in Hutto.  It seems that the South location actually offers a little more if you're interested in some of their other classes.  I wavered a little bit on my decision only because my insurance doesn't cover the facility (so that part is out of network so it's covered less than a hospital) but after looking at everything, I'm happy to be going there.  Of course, we haven't really had much experience with them yet but the midwives are very comforting.  I also really like that they are open to more natural things rather than just medicines and they focus alot on nutrition.  Some people might not like those things but I do.

I really like hearing this! Thanks so much for answering my questions and GL the rest of your pregnancy!
