How long did your DC stay dry at night before you quit Pullups?

DS2 is PT'd and has been waking up dry at naptime and in the morning for the last week or so.  Would you ditch the pullups now or wait a while longer?  Do you wait until they show they can wake up to use the toilet if need be?

DS1 was in Pullups for 1 1/2 years after being PT'd before he stayed dry at night, so this is surprising for me.

  • I kept DD in pullups for like a  year at night.

Even though she was always dry?

  • About 3 weeks.

I thought it would take forever (she was the kind of kid who woke up wet every morning no matter what), but once she was day trained, she was generally dry overnight.

She asked to quit the pullups after about a week, but I held on for a few weeks just to make sure.

  • With DD she would wet them all the time,  until one day I forgot to change her from underwear to pull up and she woke up dry and ran to the bathroom to go.  I was ok and did it again the next night and she was dry again.  The following night DH changed her and she woke up wet.  So I did not change her that following night and she was dry.

I would try it, it can not hurt

yep. I was paranoid that she was going to pee the bed. Every once in awhile she would wake up wet.

  • maybe a week? My kids pretty much never wet the bed so I didn't see any reason to use them.
  • I found that my DD only wet at night when she had the Pull-Up on so I took it off after a few days and she never wet the bed after I took them off. It's like the Pull-up sends them mixed messages - it really is still like a diaper. I stopped using them while she was actively potty training and she was great.

I used a hospital chuck under rear end for the first day or two but she never wet it.

  • Let's see. DS was daytime trained at age 2y9m. He's over 5 now, so.... We are still waiting. He's only been dry in the morning 3 times. Once at age 3, and twice in the last week. I am really trying not to get my hopes up.

DD was night "trained" prior to ever being day PT. For several months. I had her in a pull-up for two days once we went to underwear for days. She was 2y4-ish m.

  • DD1 was 3.5 when she PT'ed.  She was dry at night about two months later.  We did pullups for a month because I was nervous about accidents.  But in that month I think she woke up wet 1 or 2 times.  She had one full accident and one partial (woke up part way through the accident) after that and nothing since.

DD2 was just under 2.5 when she PT'ed.  We ditched the naptime pullup shortly after that.  She still wears a pullup to bed.  If I had to guess, there's 1, maybe 2 potties in there so I bet she's close to staying dry at night.

Sounds like you are close to ditching the nighttime pullups!  Yay for you!

  • With DD I kept using them for 3 weeks. Prior to PTing she woke up every morning soaking wet, even through an overnight pull up WITH a diaper doubler, even after being daytime trained this went on for another 3 months. One morning she just woke up dry and never pee'd at night again. I only kept going for 3 weeks because I was gun shy. DS#2 has been pretty much day trained since Memorial Day and wakes up dry 6 out of 7 mornings. Because of that 1 morning he wakes up wet, he will continue in pull ups at night. I have no desire to be washing sheets multiple times a week.

  • With my oldest, I had her in pull-ups for about 2 months after she was day and night trained, she was night trained first and I wanted to make sure.  SHe would either wake up dry or wake up during the night to use the bathroom.  DD#2 is still in pull-ups over night.  She has been on a good streak of waking up dry for about 2 weeks but before that, was waking up wet 1-2 times a week.  She has never woken up to go potty at night.  I am not rushing to get rid of the pull-ups at night (she doesn't wear them for naps as long as she pees before she goes down at home and she doesn't use them at all at school) - I want to see her dry over night for a few months or to start waking up to pee 1st.
