Eco-Friendly Family

Hello!!!

I recently started reading some books that helped me realize it is important to become more eco-friendly. I had a two questions that I wanted to ask.

1.) I was reading on here a week or two ago about making your own household cleaning products. Someone posted a link that showed what all you would need. Does anyone have that link?

2.) I was thinking about buying those wool balls instead of using dryer sheets. How long do they last and do you think it is a good investment?

TIA.

DD#1 is 3! And LO#2 is on his/her way! Due Feb 26th, 2014.

BFP#1: EDD 5/7/2010 born on 5/20/2010. A little girl named Emily.

BFP#2: m/c 10/29/2012 EDD was 6/21/2012 Baby Hope was 6 weeks 3 days.

Re: Hello!!!

  • Hello!

    1. Not sure which link you were looking for specifically, but I have this pinned: https://www.younghouselove.com/2009/10/clean-up-your-act-all-natural-homemade-cleaners/

    2. They last a long time. They are definitely a good investment.

Thank you. :) Do you know a good site to buy them from?

Mine's going strong after almost 2 years. I used this: Bernat Felting Natural Wool

  • Gotta say, I haven't been as amazed with the drier balls myself. I didn't see a noticeable shortening of drying time, or softer clothes (we don't use softener anyways). I still throw them in occasionally...but not sure they were worth the price...

That said, I LOVE natural cleaners. Basically a jug of vinegar, a box of baking soda, some bio-dishsoap, and we are good! :)

  • Ah.. that yarn looks much better than what I used. Thanks, Lucky. I just got some etsy ones a few weeks ago, though.

    ..

How many do you have? I didn't notice a difference with 3, so I used 6 instead and that means our CDS only need 1 dryer cycle instead of two, so.. I'm impressed by that much alone. Oh, and our towels and jeans are completely dry instead of being a little damp in the pockets still.

I use old tennis balls that I had laying around.  They work great, though I think I would see better results if I used more than 3.

  • 4...but I will definitely throw in more and see how it goes. But I was a little shocked at how well the washer and dryer work...so maybe we just got lucky with the brands that came with the house?
(A big load of cloth dipers (cotton) all get dry in one cycle.)

    Thanks for the tip! :)

That is awesome! I have some that we never used. We were going to try to learn tennis but we never did. haha. Now, I can try that. Do you think I should use 6?

Mine unraveled too, but I didn't use felting wool, just regular wool yarn.  This seems like it would work a million times better.
