Houston Babies

Think Elijah might have a milk allergy.

I gave him rice cereal for the first time last Tuesday.  I mixed it with formula because I have not pumped at all do to having thrush for the last 2 months.  As he ate I noticed the area around his mouth turned red.  We switched to oatmeal.  It was not as bad but still getting blotchy around the mouth.  I tried the oatmeal with plain water and there was no reaction.  I really hope this is not the beginning of a milk allergy.

If it is a milk allergy then he would have other signs, too. Maddie had excema, watery stools mixed with blood, severe gas, bloating, and mega pain. Hopefully he just didn't like the cereal.

  • My friend's son is allergic to milk, it makes him throw up but they didn't figure out what was causing it for a long time.  I don't think it caused any kind of skin reaction around his mouth though, so hopefully it's not milk in your case.

  • DD has a milk allergy and it causes her to projectile vomit and break out all over her face.  I'd talk to the pedi about it.
  • both my kids had milk allergies. they didn't vomit, have bloody stools or anything like that. just very upset tummies with symptoms close to reflux. anyway, who knows. sometimes truitt, who has very sensitive skin, gets red blotches aroudn his mouth when he eats. doesn't have to be anything new, just depends if his skin is being sensitive that day. i would look for other symptoms before you worry about it. it either case, i've done no dairy twice for 6+ months and it's not as hard as it seems. :)
