Oh my gosh. I'm pulling DH into this too, as he didn't notice either. Sunday night we went to a wedding in a big party barn in Central Washington [side note - much cooler than it sounds - good catering, awesome barn]. K is just going crazy having fun crawling, cruising around, climbing everything. Of course, everything is made of wood. She only cried when we picked her up as she was having so much fun.
Fastforward through Monday am, playing in hotel room, packing up car, buckling in child, nothing. We stop in Snoqualmie for lunch on way home, and I see K's hand is COVERED in splinters. Big, nasty, horrible splinters. How did we not see these??
Once we got home we had one of those horrible experiences I never want to relive - DH held her down and I had to dig out all the splinters. She screamed and screamed, but was fine a few minutes after we finished.
Mom [and Dad] of the Year right here!
Re: Mom of the Year!
Well since she wasn't complaining at all, I can see how it would be easy to miss. I wonder too if they were a little deeper in at first so harder to see. Getting them out sounds miserable, poor kiddo (and Mom and Dad!).
Side note: I went to a wedding at a cool barn near Ellensburg a few years ago, it was a great venue.
awww (but we've ALL got those moments!!)
Tip for next time: Duct tape might have taken some of them out...press on and tear off and usually some of the less deep splinters come right off with the duct tape!
Syd was playing with some bigger kids at the playground last week, piling wood chips on to the slide. I let her do it knowing full well what would happen. She came home with the expected splinters and now she doesn't want to pile wood chips on the slide anymore. Call me a bad mom but I call it mission accomplished.
Sarah gets them a lot too at the playground. I'm pretty sure they bother me more than her.
Hope K is ok now!
