Anyone's OB answering service not pick up?

This has now happened THREE times with my new OB. 

1st - I had been puking for 12 hours non-stop and wanted to know if I should head to the ER. No answer. It just rang and rang.

2nd - Got hit by a drunk driver. Not bad but still had NO idea what to do. Cops were waiting around to see what the OB said. No answer. It just rang and rang.

3rd - I accidentally dialed there number too early to make an appointment change. Ring Ring Ring...

 I have called my insurance who spoke to them. I have informed them of the problem. The office told me to just call L and D if no one picked up. Lovely. 

How can you have an OB practice when the, as of yet, have never had an answering service after hours?

    I would switch doctors.  That's bad form.  There are some things you just need to talk to someone about.

    Not good. I would talk to the doc about it and look into switching to a different practice. My OB gave me her cell number for emergencies.

    Do they ever answer at night?  Some OBs use L&D as an answering service.  I would find out.
