First day back in the office. FAIL

Ugh, I knew I should've left more time to get ready this morning. I just went to check out the lactation room here at work and realized I forgot the stupid breastshields at home. I was SO prepared, I thought. I have EVERYTHING else, freezer packs, storage bags, etc. My work has pumps, so I even brought the attachments, but forgot the stupid breastshields. I just slinked into my boss' office and told her I'll have to go work from home this afternoon, because I can't make the whole day here without pumping. Luckily, she's a mom and completely understands and I can do my job just as effectively at home but this is not how I wanted my first day back at the office to go. Hopefully I can get my act together.

  • There is always so much to remember on a daily basis.  Can you keep extras of some things at work, just in case?

This is how prepared I thought I was - I have two sets of everything, so I can leave one set here and have some at home. That way, I'll never forget something. Unfortunately, that only works if you actually bring them to work in the first place. Tongue Tied

  • It's ok, these things happen. I recommend getting a second set of all of your pump parts so you can leave them at work.

  • I did that my first week back and ended up borrowing from a coworker who's also a nursing mom. I ordered an extra set from Amazon and keep it in my desk as insurance. Since I ordered the extra set, I haven't forgotten anything, lol.

Now I have a routine down as soon as I get home (I know myself and unless I make it automatic, I'll forget). I get home, bring the baby into the kitchen with me, stash milk for the next day, throw my used pump parts in the dishwasher and pack the bag with pump parts for the next day (I rotate two sets). I also pack my lunch at the same time.  It takes about 10 minutes total and I am set for the next day and can spend the rest of the night playing with the baby.

  • Eh, I say it's the cosmos helping you ease back in to work.  Having your first day back be a full 8-hour day is just absurd.  Wink  You're doing great!

I agree.  I've forgotten parts with both of my babies (luckily I only work a 10 minute drive away).  It happens.  We've all been there.  I now actually count the bags I am bringing to the car every morning to make sure I have everything.

  • Don't you hate it when you think you are all prepared and then you're not?  One thing I keep in my desk is all the parts to a manual pump.  I've forgetten parts before and I've had my pump die on me in the middle of a pumping session. That manual pump has come in handy on several occasions - for myself and my co-worker.  Hang in there - we have all been there.  Each day will get easier.
