cold turkey- day one

so as i posted on FB last night M went cold turkey last night. no paci. we heard him a couple times during the night and just went in, rubbed his back , gave him his lovey and shushed him back to skeep. early this am i heard him and went in, i think he may have had is fingers in his mouth- my greatest fear that he'll just substitute with things i can't take away- but i'm not totally sure- i was still kinda asleep.

this morning when he got up he was fine- i also feared he'd hate me this morning- lol!

overall it seemed pretty easy and i would love to lable it a success, but i'm cautiously optimistic:

a. it was only one night

b. i think he may have been still feeling the effects of being up past his bedtime the night before

c. IMO night time is different then nap time, we'll see how my mom does today with him. i made the suggestion that she should try without and if he puts up a really good fight then let him have it, but DH wants a unified front- no giving in- which is easy for him to say since he isn't dealing with it- or won't have to till the weekend. with the block sale this weekend DH will be napping him and if we are still struggling with this in 3 days he'll have to deal with it then.

You and ASP have given me the boost I need to try this in the next week.  We know we have to get rid of it but my fear is that there would be too many changes with the new babe.  When we were at the doc two weeks ago she said something about Claire still having a pacifier.  It's time.  I'm just scared!

Glad that all seemingly went well!

Me too! I think I will give it a whirl at nap today. I am going to try the bye bye binky method though. He only has it at nap and bed, but he is getting more and more attached to it. I see/hear him either sucking on it or looking for it a lot at night.

I hope M does ok for your mom today!

  • I wouldn't give in at all and I wouldn't give your mom the option of letting her give it to him. It was much easier when we completely took it away opposed to giving in and giving it to her at bed time. It confused her that she could have it at certian times. Once it was gone and completely out of sight she did fine. She did find her thumb as a good substitute. I have noticed she doesn't wake up randomly in the night crying or whining anymore which I think was due to her losing the paci and not being able to find it right away.

  • thanks girls!

i don't think my mom will give in, well she didn't with me! told me mine flew out the car window, and that was that! she wanted me off it when my brother was born shortly after, i was just two years old. my mom is pretty strong, DH on the other hand is wishy-washy, he'll talk a big game but he's a big softee.

i am worried about him switching to his fingers/thumb. i can't take his appendages away! the dentist told me yesterday that she is going through the same thing with her son, she has sewn mittens on all his pj's!!
