Dd has the "my 1st dollhouse" and is ready for the next step up, but I'm on the fence.
I like that the larger model kidraft dollhouses can accommodate barbie-sized dolls, but am concerned that the house doesn't make any sounds.
The Fisher Price Loving Family house is on sale at TRU this weekend. It makes sounds...but it's plastic and can only accommodate small dolls.
I'm sure this depends on the kid...dd has a wood kitchen and train table that don't make sounds and she still plays with them. Just wanted to get some different perspectives before I make the purchase.
Which one do you have and are you happy with your purchase? Thanks:)
Re: Kidkraft Wood dollhouse or Fisher Price Loving Family Dollhouse
We have the Kidkraft Savannah Dollhouse, and my girls (5 and 4) STILL play with it, and DS loves to play with it too (he's 2.5), although, he puts his cars in the dollhouse.
I like the Kidkraft dollhouse because it's tall and accommodates Barbie Dolls....... which my girls have tons of......
I've actually had my eye on the "Savannah" model! Great to hear that your 5 year old still plays with it! I feel more secure buying it knowing that she may play with it for a few years. I've been looking at kidkraft specifically because they can accommodate barbie-sized dolls which dd is already into. Thanks so much!!!
Also, their customer service is fantastic. One of the floors didn't fit well, and they sent us a new one right away - no real questions asked.....
kidkraft's customer service is really good- we have a kitchen of theirs and we had a few issues that they quickly resolved.
That being said- we have the FP loving family dollhouse. For me I wanted something a little more compact that could fold up. My DD isn't into dolls (not baby dolls- not barbie dolls......at least not yet) and she looooooves playing with the smaller figures. She has been playing with it for about 6 months- practically daily.
DD -- 5YO
DS -- 3YO
Smart!
We have the Loving Family doll house and I can't say enough about how adorable it is, and how much my 3 daughters, ages 4 and 2.5 yr. twins, play with it everyday. All of my daughters also love Barbies, and play with them most days also, so I don't know if they will outgrow the Loving Family or not - but seeing as they are already into Barbies, it doesn't seem like it - it seems like they like the "Barbie alternative."
Either way the Loving Family Doll house is always much cheaper at Walmart than TRUS. I think it's on sale at TRUS for $99, and its currently at Walmart online for $65 with free shipping and extra bonus furniture:

you probably cannot go wrong either way. dd was still playing with the FP little people farm at age 5. lol. just rotated it in and out of their play area (ds is 3). she has the kidkraft dollhouse and loves it. it survived our recent move. she's really into teh Liv dolls right now (she's not a baby doll person but loves her full size american girl and her barbies and liv dolls). she's really big into the accessories now.
prior (at her 2nd bday) she had a little fairy, mushroom dollhouse thing she could carry around. she loved that thing...
oh, edit. dd got the kidkraft dollhouse when she was 3 going on 4. (christmas a month before her 4th bday).
We have the Kidkraft Savannah and DD loves it. I wouldn't worry about it not making sounds. DD likes to make her dolls have "conversations" so she just uses her imagination. DD really likes the bigger dolls, and it's a great size for her Barbie scale Disney princess dolls, plus the chunky wood furniture is easy for her little hands to handle. I bought additional wooden dollhouse accessories at Target that are also large scale, including a wooden grand piano that plays a tune if you press a button on top- so there's one sound for her!
I have to agree with pp, Kidkraft customer service is awesome. I called for a replacement part for the wooden kitchen we had just purchased, and happened to mention that a part on the Savannah was cracked (I bought it second hand from Craig's List) and they sent me that part, too, at no charge.
