So I was feeling "off" all day yesterday, achey, sore throat and got chills right before I went to bed. Woke up feeling better but then started feeling yucky again. Went to doc and the nurse practitioner said it looked pretty "nasty" and they did a strep test. Weirdly enough, it's not strep.
So she gave me a broad spectrum anti-biotic to clear it up and said to go to the ENT if it is not better. So I ask around and find out that the anti-biotic she prescribed (Levofloxicin) is an L3... not proven safe but not proven unsafe because lack of studies and therefore not endorsed by the AAP. The LC at my pedi office said she cannot say it's okay to take. Cue panic and the thought of pumping and dumping for 10 days when we have a trip coming up where I need all the milk I can get.
I called my doc back they said I can lower it to amoxicillin to see if that does it first. I am relieved but of course now worried that it won't do it and I'll get sicker. Can't win.
Of course there's the fact that I worry LO has already caught it since I was feeling for his tooth yesterday, and the question remains that i am not even sure how *I* managed to get it.
Of course this is what I worried about all afternoon instead of taking a nap. LOL!

Re: antibiotics (Amy_G... input please?)
I think it was more the look of the infection that made her want to start antibiotics. I had a 101 fever but don't have a cough or runny nose or anything.
I had them knock it down to amoxicillin, they were happy to do so, which I have not taken in ages so I am certainly not resistant. This way if it is some bacteria, it's regulated and if it's not.. not like I am taking some high dose stuff.
I am usually not into antibiotics unless really needed, but since they don't know what this is is, I want to be relatively safe.
