Georgia's school just called and they think she has the hand, foot and mouth virus. (Of course another kid had chicken pox last week, so it could be that, too. WTF school, how about a heads up???)
Have any of you had to deal with this? We'll have to wait to get to the pedi until tomorrow morning but poor DH is on his own; I leave on a 6 pm flight to London.
Any advice?

Dylan just had this a month or so ago. It was awful, for about a day or 2 and then got much better. The rash on his body didn't bother him, it was the mouth sores. He refused the paci because of the pain, so that was the only "good" part of it - now we don't have to figure out how to take it away. Anyway, we brought him to the pediatric urgent care for it, and they gave us "magic mouthwash". He's too little to have him rinse with it, but we were told to use a qtip to put the mouthwash on the sores. It helped SO much! It took away the pain, and I think it helped them heal much faster.
I hope she feels better very soon! It seems to be a short-lived virus so hopefully she'll be fine in a couple of days.

Dylan didn't run a fever or have diarrhea. Funny how the virus can effect every child differently.

Olivia got it from her boyfriend Dylan
. Haha. I think because I had a heads up on it I knew what to expect however for us it was a little different (even from Dylan's experience) she didn't have any sores in her mouth that we could see however she had a 103 fever and was just fussy in general. I think she had a very mild case also. She only had about 2 sores on her feet and a couple of her hands. I think most of her sores though were in her throat.
It took about 3 days and once her fever broke, the sores appeared, she was MUCH better.
Good luck!
DD had the coxsackie virus last week, which the pedi told me was a strain of the Hand Foot Mouth. She had sores on her throat and really high fever. She started running fever on Tuesday and it got as high as 104.7 on Thursday night.
She is just now starting to feel like herself. I hope your little one is feeling better.
I have it! My dr (and Addie's) said to dab a mix of 50% children's benadryll and 50% children's maloxx (or the regular kind, it's the same except for the flavor) on the mouth sores. It isn't painful and helps relieve the pain quickly. I have no fever or bathroom issues but do have the sores in my throat and on my hands and feet. It is no fun and rare for adults to have it!
Good luck-I hope she feels better and doesn't get the fever and other stuff with it.
Regarding the gross tasting mouthwash... I was warned about this, so I had Dylan's flavored with grape. He loved it.
