PDA surgery tomorrow morning

I was wondering if anyone can share their story with me. Zoe was given medication to close her PDA but it's opened back up so they've decided to have the surgery tomorrow morning. Anything would help. Thanks

I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July!

Re: PDA surgery tomorrow morning

  • Hi! My LO, Emily, had PDA ligation surgery when she was 28 weeks GA, 4wks AA. It was very nerve-wracking for DH and I but it went quickly. From the time she was wheeled to the surgery room to finish and back up to the NICU, it was only about 50 min. She responded amazingly well. 4 days after her ligation she finally went off the vent and never looked back!

It was very stressful for DH and I. But we just kept telling each other that the dr wouldn't have said to do it if it weren't necessary. T&Ps your way!

  • My Zoey had the same surgery.  This was very uneventful compared to other things we endured in the NICU.  Every surgery is stressful on the mama's, we know that.  Take good care of yourself and we will pray for little Zoe!

This.  It's definitely a scary thing to go through but the surgery was relatively short, Annie had no complications and after a couple days was off her vent and back to "normal."

Breathe deep, eat a lot of chocolate-- and big hugs to you. :)

  • Good luck with the surgery! DS had his when he was 10 days old, and it was nerve wracking for sure. (for us - it is such a common procedure for preemies that in our NICU everyone else just took it with a grain of salt.). DS did have a tough few days of recovery where his bp wouldn't stabilize, but they had warned us that often symptoms got worse before they get better. He was back to normal a few days later. ((hugs)). I know how scary it is as a parent.
