Ever since my c-section

MrsSRMrsSR member

Right after the birth of DD, I started having bathroom issues.  I wouldn't feel the urge to pee until it was really strong (like I have to pee now or I'll pee on myself).

I have never had an accident, but just these past few days I get the strong urge, then urine comes out...  I don't get that feeling in my bladder like I'm peeing though.

WTH is this?  Should I call my PCP or GYN???

Re: Ever since my c-section

  • Yes, i would to be on the safe side. personally my nurse i had during my hospital stay made sure i was able to urinate a certain amount in a certain amount of time. i guess this was to make sure everything was working right once they removed the catheter or as dh calls it the pee bag lol. i remember this for both my c sections. i dont recall having that feeling as if im not urinating or i could only go after my bladder was really full. I would call just to double check to see if thats normal.

  • Yes, you should talk to your ob/gyn.  It sounds like you have urge incontinence.  There are things that can be done to fix that like pelvic floor exercises.

It may be a result of your pregnancy itself, not your c/s, but I could be wrong of course.  It's my understanding that a planned c/s has lower rates of postpartum incontinence than a vaginal delivery; unplanned cesareans have rates of postpartum incontinence similar to that of vaginal deliveries.  Did you labor before your c/s?

  • I had trouble feeling the urge to urinate for a while after my c section.  I believe it was due to temporary damage from the catheter.

C-section due to fetal distress and lack of progress.

Labored for 48 hrs prior to this.

  • I definitely agree - you should see a doctor and also try to find a post-partum pilates instructor.  I did several Mommy & me classes early on to strengthen and repair what had been stretched during pregnancy and labor.  We shouldn't have to suffer with these issues.  My Mother went through a whole round of surgeries, but found that weight lifting and pelvic floor exercises made all the difference.

  • Your bladder is attached to the uterus, when they do the section they essentially peel it off the muscle and it needs to heal to. So spasms, weird sensations etc. are normal at least that is the way my doc described it to me. It took a while to feel normal again, I totally had that sensation where I needed to wait many hours to fill before I had the urge and by the way I totally had some pp incontinence that mostly went away until I got preg. again. Also normal, not great but normal. Perineal integrity as reason for C/S, as some people seem to think, is totally crap because you can have many of the same probs pp.
