I am going to preface this with saying it started as a kind of crappy weekend as a lady hit my car in a parking lot while I was running errands yesterday...
D and I were going to run errands earlier today. DH had been out earlier running errands. All of D's stuff (stroller, diaper bag, shopping cart cover) were in DH's car, so I told him that I was just going to take his car.
So, we head out and I did not anticipate the kind of traffic we encountered. D was just starting to have a melt-down because the car was not moving ( we were at a dead stop for a while) when I look down and realize that the gas light is on and the car is on E. Seriously? DH had just gotten back from running errands and he did not realize he had no gas?
After moving for a bit, I realized that if I got a little further, I was going to be on the part of the highway that was one lane with no shoulder going down a mountain. If I ran out of gas there, I would've completely stopped traffic ( even more so). Oh, and there was NO cell reception and the way the traffic was- It would've taken me easily 30-45 minutes before I hit a gas station- there was NO way I could've made it.
So I pulled a totally illegal and dangerous U-turn and started to head back towards home praying that I could make it to a visitor's center on the highway because there was no way I could make it to my exit which is the nearest town.
I did and DH had to bring me gas so that we could get the car home.
I was SO freaking mad at him. I know I should've checked to make sure there was gas, but he had just gotten home! It is really unlike him and he felt terrible. Luckily there was no real crisis-
So far, this weekend blows. lol.
Re: SO angry with DH earlier today.
I'm sorry, hon -- sounds like a really crappy weekend so far all around.
I have to tell you that this is so ME. I would completely understand if DH was very PO'd at me for it, but this is totally something I would do. I've been driving for almost 14 years, and yet I never, ever check how much gas is in the tank. Filling it up never crosses my mind unless the light comes on. I know it is awful, especially when carting kids around, but it is me all the way. I've had a few VERY close calls (alone, thankfully), and I still haven't learned my lesson.
(((HUGS))). I'm glad you made it home safely, and I hope your weekend improves big time!
My husband is notorious for leaving the tank sitting on empty, so I always check when I get in either vehicle. You are right...not cool of him to put you in that position. I think some people just don't think about such things! I know my husband is a wonderful man, great husband and fantastic father, but he has absolutely no forethought.
