I know this has been discussed a billion times before but I cannot seem to find any of the previous discussions on the topic (and I swear there was one recently too).
My boys have no problem in the car so we drive pretty much all the time down there--we also have family in the area so it's nice to have our own car to go from place to place. There are lots of recs for the Best Western, Howard Johnson, and even Paradise Pier at the resort.
Just a heads up: If you plan on driving, avoid doing it between July 14-17. They are shutting down the 405 through LA for road work and all of the other freeways... which are already congested... are going to turn into a parking lot. If you need to travel during these dates, I highly recommend flying instead.
We were are hoping to drive so we can take all the things we need and not worry about checking bags out the wa-zoo. Besides, EJ does great in the car, and we plan to go in the evening (after I am done with school for that day) so he would sleep most of it anyway.
We do have family meeting us there (from SoCal) so ultimately we could ask them to bring extra stuff if necessary.
We are going in December, but TY for the heads up about the 405 (I think I vaguely remember hearing my sister complain about that).
We are planning to go for 3-4 nights and are just trying to decide how much time we want to spend at the parks (DH and I have never been to CA Adventure) so not to overload EJ with a whole day of Disney (I imagine we would do 1/2-3/4 days at the parks instead of full).
I am tempted to stay at a DL resort due to proximity alone. Thoughts on locations of things? My sister is an annual pass holder with free parking so it isn't the end of the world if we are off the DL "campus." I think my parents are planning to drive with us down so we would all just go in their minivan and there would still be room for my sister after she met up with us so we would all just use her parking if we dont stay at a DL hotel.
We stayed at the Grand Californian and it was divine! We just walked right into (and out of) CA Adventure. The tram (from parking) was a pain because we had to fold and load the stroller (which we'd packed with everything so it didn't fold easily) We went in the AM, brought him back for his nap, and then hit it again in the PM and were done by his bedtime. I actually enjoyed our day at CA Adventure lots more than Disney because Land was SO packed and Adventure was just fun.
Last time we were there, we stayed at the Fairfield Inn Anaheim Disneyland resort. It is across the street from the main entrance. However keep in mind, just because it is across the street, it was still probably a ten minute walk to the front gate. I used google maps to get an idea of the vacinity of each hotel we looked at. Hope that helps!
i'd fly but that's ONLY b/c we wouldn't have the time to take a leisurely drive down there.
my bil/sil swear by the candycane inn in anehiem. h and i liked the hyatt in anahiem when we were down for some mma fights a few years ago.

Are you going to do anything else in the area? How does E do with the car? If you're just doing D, I'd probably fly...but I hate that drive!
