Food Allergy

{luvmygoldn}

Hey! I saw in a post below you had mentioned your allergist didn't think your son would outgrow his milk allergy anytime soon due to several years of high RAST numbers. I was just wondering what his numbers are? Ava started on the high end but each year she has been going down. Last week her allergist was confident she was heading towards outgrowing it.

  • Hi - I put together the chart below at our allergist's suggestion.  It does make it easy to see how his numbers are moving from one test to another.  The formatting got a little messed up but I think you can still see it.

    7 months 2 years
    Cow's Milk 2.09 25.00
    Egg white 9.73 5.31
    Peanut 7.96 2.95
    Soybean 6.99 1.81
    Cashew <0.35 16.5
    Pistachio <0.35 11.80
    Sesame Seed <0.35 6.41
    Brazil Nut <0.35 2.30
    Almond <0.35 1.40
    Walnut <0.35 0.71
    Pecan <0.35 0.49
    Pine Nut <0.35 0.31
    Dog Epithelium 2.59 No retest
    Dog Dander 5.74 No retest

The allergist told us that numbers tend to go up at two years b/c that's when the immune system matures.  She said if the numbers go up - don't be alarmed but know that's your new bench mark.  If the numbers go down at two years that's really good news.

So peanut and egg went down fairly significantly which is good.  But with milk coming in at 25 she said he wouldn't outgrow it soon.  Some kids have numbers above 100 or higher so I don't think it's necessarily the number alone that made her say that.  I think the amount of decrease for egg, soy and peanut played in to it as well.

It's all very interesting but we just have to wait and see what happens next.

ETA:  She tested for dog b/c we had a dog in the house for a number of years but she died two summers ago.  The allergist wondered if that might contribute to his eczema issues.
