Finally Some Relief...For a hard working mom-to-be

I finally sat down today amd spoke with my employer!! Espressing to them that I am no longer taking the risks i did before today. I am a 4th year H.D mechanic, and up until now I have still been busting my butt out in the shop. As of thursday I was 18 weeks. Since I spent 10 hours in ER due to EXTREME amounts of abdominal pain, to thankfully found out baby was ok, I came to quickly realise, that enough is enough. This may be my only kid I'll have :( and for me to put it all out on the line for my employers JUST WASNT WORTH IT ANYMORE! I am super relieved I dont have to get up every morning wondering if my boss is going to spend another day telling me to get my butt in the shop, expecting me to work a miracle. I have been one of the only hands they have to " get the job done" and I'm tired of carrying that burden. Now is about me, my health and my dearest little one growing inside of me. Time to start enjoying my pregnancy instead of worrying about it!

Say goodbye to exhaust fumes, spray paints, brake clean, grinding, impact tools and heights!

  • Good for you - you're absolutely right, it's not worth it to put yourself and your little one at risk for the good of your employer.  I went through something similar a few weeks ago when I had a patient referred to me for assessment (I do psychological assessments on people who are mentally ill but physically well) who has an untreated staph infection.  I refused, and my supervisor kept pushing - NO WAY was I putting myself at risk of contracting staph during a pregnancy.  Sometimes you've got to hold your ground; no one else is going to stand up for you if you don't.

I keep reading this as "pickle bushes" and thinking, well, that's one way to describe obstacles in a man's world!

  • Thats what it feels like. I am one person and unless i walk around showing my belly or a huge im pregnant sign over my head, no one seems to care. Really at some point, enough is enough. Thanks for the encouragement! I was deff stressed this morning! By the way, noticed you are canadian, almost my neighbor! I'm up in not so Grande Grande Prairie, AB. Is there a board with just moms from Canada, being as this is an anerican sire. I have no issues with that, just thought it would be FUN!

I'm hardly the first attorney to ever have had a family, but the legal world is most definitely a man's world!  But YOUR job sounds not only quite male-dominated, but highly physical - all I can say is YOU. GO. GIRL!!!!!!!  Just make sure that you continue to take care of your and your little one's health!

  • Good for you!  (We are on the BC side close to Grande Prairie so it is nice to know there are some northerners in here too)

    "Read the books, don
  • I'd love to find myself and my new family back in BC. That is originally where both me and the baby daddy are from. Unfortunetly you go where the money is and this is where we ended up! Ultimetly we'd love to end up around Kamloops, or even as far west as between Prince Rupert and PG.

  • Congrats on talking to your work! I have to do the same thing, but not because my job is highly physical but because it is causing me a lot of stress and I'm having a hard time handling it! I'm so nervous about doing it!

PS. I'm in BC too, Lower Mainland, it's nice to see some Canadians!
