See my post below.
So from the beginning, this guy has been strange. He mopes around - like literally mopes. Head hung down, drags his feet when he walks, etc...In fact, after working here a bit I pulled one of my co-workers off to the side and said, "I'm not one to gossip and I really am concerned but what in the heck is up with Mr. X?"
"Oh that guy. We call him Eeyore. He's always been like that."
I asked him once how he was doing and I heard all about his divorce, the restraining order his wife filed against him, custody issues, etc...I've never engaged him in conversation again. "Hello" is all he gets. Never, "Hi! How are you?"
So a few weeks ago, I have an envelope in my inbox addressed plainly to "Company XYZ". I open it and start flipping through it. It is a denial of his workman's comp claim. He was complaining that he hurt his back at work and the doctor's were saying, basically, your back isn't hurt, you are 100+ lbs over weight." In hindsight, I should never have received this nor looked through it. As an executive, I have access to workman's comp issues but I don't generally know the specifics of the decisions. I get involved in the financial issues. I passed it along to my boss and of course have never breathed a word of it to anyone else.
Anyway, today he comes in practically bouncing off the walls. Happy as could be. Drugs? Mood cycling? I don't know but he just walked past my desk (30-45 min later) and is now talking/mumbling to himself very angrily. He hasn't acknowledged a single person in the office today. He is totally freaking me out. I've never been a paranoid person but I am really afraid of this guy now that I know what is happeneing with his work situation.
Should I go to the HR person or am I being crazy-pants?
Re: *UPDATED*NBR - I work with the weirdest guy - sort of concerning - Long sorry.
What a weird, weird guy!
Maybe all it is is the boss told him to meet with him in the morning about his claim, so he thought it would be good news... but then he had the meeting first thing and got the bad news.
Except that his comp claim was denied weeks ago and he has already been moved to a different position that doesn't require him to move heavy stuff. SOmething else is going on.
This morning he comes in singing religious hymns and now he's (currently) stomping around the breakroom and slamming cabinents.
He is freaking me out!

I am no diagnostician but this guy sounds like he is either bi-polar or schitzophrenic. He deff has some mental health issues and I am concerned for you. I would say something to whomever will listen. He sounds like a timebomb waiting to go off.
Good Luck!
I had to go into the office very early this morning to get some work done and....our entire office had been trashed. Desks, computers, plants, walls punched/kicked in.
I have no proof that it is the employee that I posted about but I spent the next 2 hours with the cops and my boss explaining his bizarre behavior yesterday.
I really should have said something earlier.
