YAY! Calvin Brian arrived Sunday morning at 2:02am and we are both great.
Birth story (sort of)
Friday at 12:30 I started having STRONG contractions every 5 minutes. They just came out of nowhere and were having me stop to breathe, think, and not move. I was in pain. At 2 I called my DH to come home from work and called the doctor who told me to come to the office.
We went to the office and they took me back where I had 2-3 contractions that had tears streaming down my face. The doctor checked me and said she was shocked- I was 4cm (when on Monday the other doctor told me she thought I was 5!). I bawled like a baby. I was in agony and I hadn't progressed. She swept my membranes which hurt like hell but I didn't care. She warned me I would have some red spotting and sent me home. I cried the entire way while having these god awful contractions every five minutes. Once there I got in our jacuzzi tub and soaked. It helped some. My parents came up for the weekend and I took an ambien but in the end I didn't sleep all night because I was in too much pain.
Saturday morning at 6 my mom got up and she came downstairs and started to talk but realized I couldn't because every five minutes I was in pain. Around 8:45 I went back to bed and was able to sleep between contractions. I never understood how women could do that but I did. The other thing was since I got home from the doctors I had red blood-but it was increasing by a lot. I got up at 10am and throughout the day just lounged and cried from pain and took baths. At 4 I took a bath and as I relaxed I suddenly felt something and looked down to a large LARGE bright red clot. My contractions had slowed to about 10 minutes apart but I realized I hadn't felt hte little guy moving much.
I called the doctor on call and she said to come get checked. So off to triage we went. We got there at 5:30 and the nurse that checked me said "I'd say you are 3-4" I about came off the table and went nuts. HOW THE HELL was I regressing, instead of progressing when I was in so much damn pain? So the doctor said to keep me an hour and recheck. I heard the nurse talking about how "not room 2, room 3, room 2 isn't real labor, room 3 is" and of course I was room 2. Just before she came to recheck me after an hour she was on the phone and said "yeah, I gotta recheck and send this lady home then I will call you back". so she came in and checked me and her eyes went huge. My contractions were still 10 minutes apart but I had gone to "a solid 5". I was admitted.
After that it was actually easyish! An hour and a half later the doctor checked me and I was 6-7 and she ruptured my membranes. I went ahead and ordered the epidural then because I was afraid of the pain coming on. By this time my contractions were less intense then they had been the day/night before! I got the epi around 9 and at midnight I was checked and still a 6. I figured they would add pitocin, but they didn't. At 1:15am I was in pain and the nurse checked me and called the anesthisiologist to top me up- and I was 9-10. The doctor got there and I started pushing at 1:40ish. Calvin was sunny side up but I managed to get him to turn 1/2 way and he came out sideways at 2:02am. He was 7lbs 1oz and 20" long. He's been great. He nurses just fine and is healthy as can be! I didn't tear at all and thus far my recovery is SO much easier than it was with Cerys!
The only problem is he loves LOVES to nurse and it gives me God awful cramps so I am taking 1 pain pill every 8 hours and motrin as much as I can. Hopefully my uterus shrinks quickly and the pain goes away. Other than that we get released tomorrow but we are both happy and healthy. Cerys doesn't know what to think about him but she likes to smile and point at him. She's also getting showered with affection and attention from my parents.
SO very glad to FINALLY be done with this pregnancy and have him out. He seems happy too! Thanks for all the support during my pregnancy and letting my complain/vent!
Re: Had my little guy!
Congratulations on your little boy! Sounds like you had a long, exhausting go of it but I am glad to hear you're feeling well now. I had terrible, painful cramping the first few days when nursing my son (but not my daughter...hhhmmm) but it only lasted about 2 days so perhaps yours will be the same.
Congratulations again and welcome to Calvin!
