Isn't the bottom of your pnp uncomfortable?

I've seen people talk about their baby sleeping in the bottom of the pnp. Is my pnp made wrong or am I just over thinking this? The bars that criss-cross underneath the bottom are so hard and stick up through the little thin mattress. Even if Linus would sleep on them, it doesn't seem like it's safe to, no? Even with a blanket under the mattress you can feel them- and I don't know if I like making it softer to sleep on for safety.

Re: Isn't the bottom of your pnp uncomfortable?

  • DD sleept there at my ILs and seemed to like it fine. I'm looking at mine and the bars don't really seem to come up through the mattress - it's thin, but the mattress is pretty hard.

We have one of those quilted sheets on it (in monkey pattern! Because I'm a nerd like that) and that seems to make it a little more comfy. She doesn't seem to mind it.

  • Hmm, maybe my mattress is thicker than I thought. I know that when he's sleeping in the bassinet part you can feel the straps that go under the mattress through it even. So we have to make sure to put his head far enough up so that it isn't half on and half off the strap.

  • The bottom mattress is hard but I can't feel the bars through it. We did purchase an additional mattress for it, though It is one of those mattresses that folds four ways to make for easy travel...still very thin but I think it helps a bit. LO has only napped in there once or twice, though. We mostly use it for playing right now.

  • Like Scout, we have quilted PNP sheets for the bassinet.  Once I drop it down to the bottom, I'll put in my Koala Kids mattress.  It's a tight fit and firm...wouldn't use it otherwise.

  • I didn't think about an actual mattress. I wouldn't consider what comes with it a mattress- the foldable one that it "packs" in to. I see you can get a 3" portable crib mattress for about $25 on amazon though so that would work.

  • I don't know.. my nieces slept in their pnp whenever they were at my mom and dad's and they seemed to do just fine. I don't quite know why it would be unsafe though..
