Baby Monitor + white noise?

Winnie is finally sleeping in her room for part of the night. I have a white noise machine on and then have the audio monitor on in my room. every minute or so the monitor has a little bit of static a nice loud "Shhhht". It drives me CRAZY. I have yet to actually SLEEP while she is in her room.

Are there any monitors that..."get used to" the white noise, and then click on when baby makes more sharp noises? or am I sh*t outta luck?

Re: Baby Monitor + white noise?

  • that is strange, I use a Dex Sound machine with my Angelcare Monitor in DS's room with no problem.

Maybe you have the white noise machine too close to the monitor?

  • Loading the player...
  • I have a white noise machine and an audio monitor and I don't get any static like that.  My monitor is on all the time though, in that I can hear the white noise machine through it.  It doesn't click on or anything just when he makes noise.  Maybe you need a monitor like that?

  • Our monitor doesn't do that either. It's just a Graco audio one. Like pp said, maybe the noise machine is too close or the volume needs to be turned down on it?

Congrats on getting W in her own room, that's fantastic!

  • Good job getting WR into her own room!  It was hard for us (me) to do that with H, but it's working.  We have the same issue you do- we use the Homedics Sleep Spa or whatever it's called, and one of the Summer video monitors.  They're across the room from each other, but the static sound is incredibly loud.  Our solution was to start with the white noise nice and loud for her, then go in and turn it way down once she's fast asleep.  I would be ok with weaning her from it completely, so we might need to do that.

  • Simon loves his sounds machine.  Unfortunately none of the rest of us do!  However, since our bedroom are in such close proximity (we are all three right in the back corner of the house) we've all just had to get used to it.  Sucks, although I must say I hardly notice it now.  But we started him in his crib at like 5 weeks old, heh heh.

  • We have the Sony Babycall and its has a noise cancelling feature for white noise. We never hear it unless he actually makes noise to trigger the monitor. Its great.

  • We haven't had that issue. We also have the Dex sound machine from BRU and a much older Graco monitor. We don't get the static sound just clicking if for some reason the channel needs to be switched (it will drop the connection and make annoying popping noises until I kinda reset it). We also keep the monitor at one area of the room and the noise machine in another part so it's not right on top.
  • Hahaha, ok it seems that the monitor I am looking for is the one we have!

We've had it for so long and unused that I don't have the manual anymore and didn't notice the "voice act" switch. Derrrrrrrrr
