April 2011 Moms

switched to cloth diapers!

I have been looking into it for about 3-4 weeks now, and we finally purchased the diapers 2 days ago, and started yesterday!

It was, and is, so easy! We went with the Flip System and got a great deal on new because of their sale through the 5th right now (not affiliated, just happy with them so far! we paid under $250 for everything we needed - covers, inserts, wet bags, pail, detergent, new rash cream). We have had no leaks, and yesterday had to change the cover once due to a poopy diaper - which i figured would happen and seems to be when people need to change covers most.

I love with the flips that the majority of the time we are only changing out the insert. We chose the stay dry inserts and i am very happy with them - you know when they are wet if you touch it, but barely - it isnt like the insert of soaking wet against baby's skin. I also love that these will grow with DD and we shouldnt need to buy more covers (unless we want more quantity that is).

We had no actual issues with disposable - no rashes, ect. But I wanted something nicer against DD's skin. I hated the marks she got from disposables on her legs or bum from the pattern of the inside of the diaper.

anyways, just wanted to share if anyone else was thinking or looking into cloth diapering now since we are loving it so much - and i think DH loves it too although he wont admit it lol

    thanks!

what do you use? while we had  no issues last night, i am still interested in perhaps the fuzzibunz or bum genius for overnights

  • We use the GroVia system (pretty similar to Flip I think) during the day, but I use Fuzzibunz at night double-stuffed with hemp thirsties.  We were having blowouts with disposables at night which the Fuzzibunz completely fixed and DD seems happy and dry in the morning even when she goes all night without a diaper change.

  • I use a BG 4.0 with the regular insert and the newborn insert as a doubler and have never had a leak. Also use the Kawaii Overnight Diapers which I like but are much bulkier.

I'm so happy you like your CDs.  We use the Fuzzi Bunz and have doubled up the inserts for night time because our LO is a heavy wetter.  I change her often because of the wetting.  I am happy we don't use disposables because we would go through more then a huge box in one week.

  • We've been slowly adding cloth to our routine and with repairing the aplix on some $2 BumGenius AIO's, we now have enough to do cloth full-time. I finally got a big enough diaper pail and we did our first overnight in cloth last night. He went 11 hours with a huge poop first thing in the morning before I could change him and nothing got outside the diaper (BumGenius 4.0 with a hemp insert and a microfiber insert on top). I was thrilled!

  • We just started cloth diapering, too! We haven't done overnight in cloth yet, because LO is a super-heavy wetter and he poops early in the morning, so it's been easier to use sposies overnight. But I would probably recommend fuzzibuns over night. They keep LO more dry.

Cottonbabies.com has 4-packs of used BG 3.0 for $20. I got them and they are just as nice as the 4.0's.

There is nothing used right now, but here are seconds. Seconds have a slight manufacturing defect that won't impact functionality. I've seen it discussed on the CD board and it seems that it is something super minor like slightly uneven stitching. Most people love them. Beware though, these do not come with inserts. If you don't want seconds, check back on there site for used. I got some and they were in perfect condition. https://www.cottonbabies.com/index.php?cPath=51

  • Also, I do think a flip would be a fine overnight diaper. It's basically the 4.0 just a hybrid, not a pocket. The cut and absorbency of the inserts is extremely similar to the 4.0s. When LO gets older you could double stuff or add hemp to it.

  • We recently switched too, and it's been an easy transition. Love the BG elemental AIOs!
