I had posted last week about switching my LO to Similac Sensitive due to the way my LO was acting during her feedings & the length of time it was taking her to finish her bottles. After talking to the pedi she too felt it was a good idea to give it a try & check back with her. Well, I had a sample can of the Similac Sensitive & did notice that there was some improvement. So then I went to Babies R Us & checked out their store brand version of Similac Sensitive...the ingedients were practically the same but the price was way better. Well after 2.5 days of the Babies R Us brand my LO now has grainy, dry, clay like stools which she has never had with the Similac. She is passing the stools but she is straining hard. So I went back to the Similac Sensitive....I guess we just aren't cut out for the store brand. I did notice that there were several reviews that did say the store brand caused constipation, I was hoping my LO could tolerate it - I could've saved tons of money. Oh well, at least I did give it a try....

Re: Store Brand Formula Didn't Work For Us :-(
We just switched to an organic formula called Baby's Only from www.naturesone.com . We are using the lactose free. Her reflux is almost 100% gone now, but we are working through some contstipation issues it is causing with diluted infant white grape juice.
I like this formula because, in my opinion, the ingredients are superior to the most popular brands. (We'd been using Enfamil Nutramigen.) Also, it looks and smells more like "real food" to me.
We had the same issue w/ the switch to Target's Up and Up version of Similac Sensitive. My pedi had suggested trying the store brand, and she just had a horrible reaction to it.
As soon as we switched back to the name brand, she was fine.
I know, I was sad from a financial stand point, but there was no arguing w/ the results.
Wow, they're online prices aren't bad at all either. Very comparable the Babies R Us store brand prices. As far as the constipation issues your LO is experiencing...did it occur when you switched to this formula?
Exactly....
Yes, about 24 hrs after starting the new formula, she had an almost solid bowel movement. Since then, she's done some straining accompanied with crying, and she's produced 2 more almost solid BMs. I'm hoping it works itself out (with the help of the infant fruit juice, which was approved by our pedi) because she's so much less fussy and spits up far less than she was.
My dad & stepmom are my Sam's club connection.
They are getting me the big tubs of the Similac Sensitive from there. I just find it so interesting how the ingredients are almost identical but there is just something that causes the constipation with the store brand formula.
Yes and it is so painful to watch your baby go through this especially when all you are trying to do is help them. No more formula trials for me, I'm just going to stick with what I know.
We had a very similar experience. DS is on Gentlease for reflux. I didn't even know the had a generic version because we live in a very small town and they only carry the brand name at Walmart. I was at a CVS one day and got really excited that they had a generic so we got it. He got horribly constipated! It was to the point he had to drink pear juice and I had to use the rectal thermometer just to get him to go. We switched right back to the brand name. That being said, the Walgreen's version works just fine. I don't really know what the difference is, but I know we'll be sticking with what works for him, even if it is a bit more expensive.
My mom is also picking me up some from Sam's Club. I'll send my checks with her too so we can save a little bit of money.
Which one? All of our babies were born in April...so...yes.
